MOONTON Games, an international gaming developer and publisher, has joined forces with National University Laguna, a premier coeducational tertiary school, to establish a framework of cooperation and collaboration aimed at implementing esports and gaming programs for its students.

The ceremonial signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU), held at National University – Laguna’s Inspire Academy Lounge, formalized this groundbreaking partnership. It signifies increased collaboration between the learning institution and the publisher to organize community events, spearhead curriculum development, and facilitate mutual access to relevant information for university endeavors such as immersion, internships, and researcher-student opportunities.

Signing the MOU were MOONTON Games Community Manager Ken Ryan Lee and NU Laguna’s Vice President and Assistant Director for Academe – Industry Linkage, Dr. Narro R. Navarro.

“We are grateful to NU Laguna for this momentous partnership that will pave the way for cooperation and academic and research excellence. This collaboration underscores our commitment to nurturing students and bridging the gap between the industry and academia. We are excited for NU Laguna scholars and faculty members to contribute to advancing esports and gaming education in the Philippines,” said Theon Hsu, MOONTON Cares Director.

Dr. Narro R. Navarro of NU Laguna expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “Esports is an integral part of National University Laguna’s DNA, fitting perfectly with our core focus on sports, wellness, and sustainability. This partnership with MOONTON Games will open up tremendous opportunities and strategic advancements for our students and the university. We eagerly anticipate the projects and opportunities this collaboration will bring.”

Also in attendance at the signing were NU Laguna Managing Director Benjamin F. Uichico, Senior Academic Director Dr. Josefina G. San Miguel, and Senior Director for Administration Jose Ricardo SA. Ocampo.

Among the initial programs to be launched at NU Laguna is a series of esports and gaming journalism workshops in partnership with esteemed esports and gaming journalists from the Philippines. These workshops will cover topics such as Media Ethics, Basic Sportswriting, Mobile Journalism, Journalism in Today’s TikTok Age, and the Pros and Cons of using AI tools in Journalism. The program is scheduled to commence in May 2024.

These educational initiatives and partnerships form part of MOONTON Cares’ corporate social responsibility programs, aimed at promoting positive societal, humanitarian, and environmental change to build a more sustainable future for the next generation.
