Perseid Meteor Shower Inspires Orient Star's Latest M34 F8 Date Models

Orient Star has introduced two stunning additions to its Contemporary Collection M34: the latest M34 F8 Date models, each showcasing a breathtaking dial design inspired by the Perseid meteor shower. Blending cutting-edge technology with astronomical beauty, these new timepieces feature Orient Star’s high-performance in-house movement with a silicon escape wheel.

One standout is a limited-edition model featuring the world’s first*1 use of nanoparticle metal multilayering technology on a watch dial. Limited to just 160 pieces, this version boasts a striking black dial that captures the brilliance of meteors streaking across the night sky. The second model debuts with a fresh green dial, adding vibrant depth to the existing lineup.

Innovation Meets Celestial Beauty

Inspired by the constellation Perseus—known for the dazzling Perseid meteor shower—the M34 F8 Date reflects Orient Star’s commitment to timeless elegance and technological advancement. This flagship model incorporates a classic layout: hour, minute, and second hands, a date window at 3 o’clock, and the brand’s signature power reserve indicator at 12 o’clock.

The limited black dial model sets a new benchmark in watch design through the use of nanoparticle metal multilayering2. This technique, typically used in electronics, makes its debut in watchmaking3 by layering ultra-fine metallic ink particles multiple times onto the dial. The result is an extraordinary sense of depth and gradation, evoking the vastness of the cosmos. Precision finishing on the hands and indices, along with a diamond-cut date frame, enhances the contrast against the celestial backdrop.

The green dial variant features delicate stamped patterns also inspired by the Perseids, continuing the design narrative of its predecessor in blue. Thanks to Orient Star’s proprietary optical multilayer film technology, the dial shimmers with shifting hues and patterns depending on the angle of light. This advanced technique, which involves layering transparent nano-films, allows the dial to reflect the mysterious beauty of outer space in ways traditional paints cannot.

Crafted with Precision and Passion

These intricate dials are handcrafted at the Dial Studio of the Shinshu Watch Studio in Nagano, Japan. The studio oversees every step—from surface finishing to hand assembly—ensuring the high level of craftsmanship that defines Orient Star.

Beneath the surface, the watches are powered by the in-house automatic mechanical calibre F8N64. This movement features a silicon escape wheel, offering superior durability and accuracy, rated at +15 to –5 seconds per day with a 60-hour power reserve. Through the sapphire crystal case-back, the beautifully finished movement, adorned with chamfered Geneva stripes on the rotor, is proudly on display.

Additional features include a robust 40 mm stainless steel case (SUS316L) inspired by the Greek hero Perseus, a dual-curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective (SAR) coating on both sides, and a water resistance of 10 bar. Each model also comes with a high-quality, comfortable metal bracelet, making it ideal for both everyday wear and special occasions.

With a perfect blend of artistry, advanced technology, and functional elegance, the new Orient Star M34 F8 Date models are a remarkable tribute to the wonders of the universe—and a testament to the brand’s continued innovation in luxury watchmaking.
