VOICE OF THE BEACH | ENTERTAINMENT

For music lovers who want to feel every lyric rather than simply sing along with thousands of strangers, a new music festival is bringing a different kind of OPM experience to the South.

Harana Music Festival 2026 is scheduled for November 28 at the Filinvest City Events Grounds in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, featuring a lineup of 11 Filipino artists led by singer-songwriter TJ Monterde. Instead of competing with the scale and spectacle of large outdoor concerts, the festival promises a more laid-back atmosphere built around acoustic performances, heartfelt songs and a closer connection between performers and audiences.

The concept raises an interesting question for the Philippine live-music scene: Can a festival deliver a memorable experience not by getting bigger, but by making the music feel more personal?

TJ Monterde leads a lineup built around emotion

At the center of Harana is TJ Monterde, whose hit song “Palagi” has become a familiar soundtrack for many Filipino listeners. His presence sets the tone for a festival that leans into love songs, emotional storytelling and music that audiences can connect with on a personal level.

He will be joined by Arthur Nery, Maki, Earl Agustin, Rob Deniel and Angela Ken, alongside acoustic and alternative-pop favorites Clara Benin, syd hartha and TONEEJAY. Rising acts Nicole and A!ka complete the announced lineup.

The appeal lies in the variety. Monterde brings heartfelt ballads, Arthur Nery is known for his soulful sound, and Maki and Rob Deniel represent a generation of artists whose songs have found audiences through streaming platforms and social media. Clara Benin, syd hartha and TONEEJAY add a more understated singer-songwriter sensibility.

For listeners who enjoy discovering artists beyond the biggest radio hits, the lineup offers an opportunity to experience different shades of contemporary Original Pilipino Music in one place.

More than a concert: What can audiences expect?

Harana’s organizers describe the festival as a stripped-down, laid-back alternative to conventional large-scale music events. The idea is to place vocals, instruments and songwriting at the forefront rather than relying solely on elaborate stage production.

The festival concept also emphasizes the overall experience, giving audiences an opportunity to enjoy the performances in a relaxed setting. Food and beverage offerings, coffee and matcha pop-ups, art installations and community spaces have been promoted as part of the event’s broader atmosphere.

That combination could appeal to music fans who want a full-day outing rather than a concert focused exclusively on headliners. It may also suit groups of friends looking for a shared experience built around familiar songs, discovering new performers and spending time together.

However, the promise of intimacy comes with a practical consideration: the festival is still an outdoor event. Its actual atmosphere will depend on the audience layout, sound quality, stage design, scheduling and crowd management. The organizers’ vision is clear, but the debut edition will ultimately determine whether the experience lives up to its description.

From Aurora’s massive crowds to Harana’s personal touch

Harana is being presented by EPIC EVENTS, the team behind Aurora Music Festival. That connection gives the new event an established name in the Philippine festival circuit to build on.

Since its launch in 2022, Aurora Music Festival has grown into a major gathering for OPM, combining live performances with food, arts and other festival attractions. Its May 2025 edition at Clark Global City in Pampanga drew a reported 150,000 attendees over two days, with BINI and Rico Blanco among the featured acts. Aurora also expanded its reach through events in Davao and Cebu.

The festival’s growth demonstrated the drawing power of Filipino artists and the appetite for large-scale live music. Its regional editions also reflected the demand for major OPM events beyond Metro Manila.

Harana takes a different route. Rather than reproduce Aurora’s large-scale formula, it is built around the possibility that listeners want another way to experience the artists they love.

The two concepts need not compete. Aurora offers the excitement of a massive crowd, big stages and festival spectacle. Harana aims to create a setting where the emotional quality of a song can take center stage.

For EPIC EVENTS, Harana is an opportunity to show that a festival brand can grow by exploring a different atmosphere, not simply by expanding its audience.

Is Harana worth considering?

For fans of acoustic music, contemporary OPM and singer-songwriters, Harana is worth considering. Its lineup brings together established names and emerging voices, while its Alabang location makes it an option for audiences from Muntinlupa and nearby parts of Metro Manila and Laguna.

The announced base ticket prices are ₱1,000 for General Admission and ₱3,000 for SVIP. Buyers should confirm the final prices, inclusions and ticket conditions through the festival’s official sales channels before purchasing.

As with any outdoor festival, practical details matter. Attendees should check the latest gate-opening time, performance schedule, venue rules, transport arrangements and weather advisories closer to the event. The full experience will depend on how the organizers deliver the promised format.

Harana’s strongest selling point is not simply the number of performers on its poster. It is the possibility of hearing familiar songs in an atmosphere designed to make the music feel closer.

That is a compelling proposition in a live-entertainment landscape where bigger stages and larger crowds often dominate the conversation.

A different kind of OPM gathering

Harana Music Festival 2026 arrives with a clear identity: intimate in concept, acoustic in spirit and centered on the songs that connect Filipino listeners to artists and to one another.

Whether it becomes a standout addition to the country’s festival calendar will depend on execution as much as its lineup. But the concept deserves attention because it recognizes that live music can be powerful in more than one way.

Sometimes, the magic is in the spectacle of a hundred thousand voices singing together. At other times, it is in a lyric that seems to describe your own story.

On November 28, Harana will attempt to bring those moments closer to home.
