Alt-pop trio NEW LORE is set to drop their debut album grief cake on August 1, 2025—a bold, emotionally charged 8-track journey that transforms heartbreak into healing, and sorrow into song. The celebration kicks off the following night, August 2, with an immersive launch party at The Astbury, Makati that promises live music, live art, tattoos, and a community of feelers ready to turn grief into glitter.
Once known as No Lore, the reimagined band—composed of visual artist and vocalist Tita Halaman, bassist Kim Escalona, and drummer Carole Lantican—emerges sharper, stranger, and more sonically fearless. grief cake serves as their rawest and most honest project yet, blending cathartic lyrics with alt-pop sensibilities that hit close to the heart.
From the existential ache of “LOVING, HURTING” to the reflective stillness of “TRAFFIC,” each track is a slice of something tender, messy, and deeply human. The album closes with its title track, “GRIEF CAKE,” a song that perfectly sums up the band’s ethos: that grief, like cake, is strange, sweet, and something we somehow keep coming back to.
“I buy myself a cake when I’m sad,” shares Tita. “It started as a ritual. Then it became a metaphor. Then it became this entire album.”
