The acoustic indie-pop track “Pieces” by Gab Cabangon delivers an inspiring reminder for anyone navigating grief, uncertainty, or depression. Describing it as his personal “It’s Okay Not to Be Okay” anthem, Cabangon invites listeners to embrace their vulnerabilities while holding on to the hope of healing and brighter days ahead.
“I want this song to be the soundtrack for people to allow themselves to go through the process of sadness and grief without feeling judged and without feeling alone,” Cabangon shares. “Part of the journey to fixing what may be broken is acknowledging the sadness and frustration that some things aren’t okay, but also knowing there will always be someone or something to help you stand up again.”

From Personal Gift to Collective Anthem
Originally written as an anniversary gift to his then-girlfriend (now wife) during the pandemic, “Pieces” has since taken on a bigger meaning. When Cabangon performed it during livestreams and gigs, the song resonated deeply—often moving audiences to tears. That response affirmed his decision to bring it into the studio and share it with a wider audience.
“It helps that I’m in a place right now where I can really invest in my music and do it at a level I can be proud of,” Cabangon adds. “I also found friends and collaborators who believed in my vision and helped me become a better artist during the process.”
Produced with long-time friend and music director David Lina, “Pieces” features warm, tender acoustic arrangements. Mixing and mastering by Shadiel “Shad” Chan and Jan Fuertez gave the track its polished yet emotional finish, capturing the lush textures and cinematic feel that Cabangon envisioned.
A Turning Point in His Journey
For Cabangon, “Pieces” represents more than just a song—it marks his official transition from live performer to solo recording artist.
“For the longest time, I was hesitant to release music under my name. I thought I’d be content just gigging. But the hunger and desire never left me,” he admits. “Late last year, I finally decided to release music as Gab Cabangon.”
With its heartfelt storytelling and intimate sound, “Pieces” becomes both an introduction and a promise—hinting at the themes of love, healing, and resilience that will define his future releases.
“Not to give away too much, but I’d like to think that it’s the opening song to a letter I’m writing for people learning to love again,” he teases. “There’s definitely more music coming, and I can’t wait to share this journey.”
