DOT and TPB Enhance Philippine Tourism, Head Largest PHL Delegation ITB Berlin 2024

The Department of Tourism (DOT), in collaboration with its marketing arm, the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines, is set to spearhead the largest Philippine delegation to date at this year’s Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB) 2024 Convention in Berlin, Germany. The delegation comprises representatives from both the public and private sectors, all tasked with promoting an enriched Philippine experience during the 3-day business-to-business (B2B) event running from March 5 to 7, 2024.

With nearly 60 delegates, including representatives from hotel and resort enterprises, destination management companies, travel and tour agencies, and government agencies such as the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA) and Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), as well as local government units from Bohol, Camiguin, Negros Occidental, Siquijor, and Sipalay, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco will lead the Philippine delegation, supported by TPB Chief Operating Officer Margarita M. Nograles.

The Philippine pavilion, showcasing local elements ranging from mother of pearl to bamboo weave prints, will serve as the focal point for B2B activities. Blown-up visuals and LED screens featuring award-winning destinations and hidden gems from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will align with the DOT’s 7-point agenda, emphasizing the equalization of tourism product development and promotion.

Throughout the event, guests will be treated to a range of activities celebrating Philippine culture, including a fashion showcase by Avel Bacudio featuring intricately crafted designs using traditional weaves. The Kalumon Performing Ensemble will present traditional attire adorned with handmade weaves and beadwork, inviting guests to partake in the cultural experience.

Furthermore, a two-night networking dinner, sponsored by the Provincial Government of Bohol and featuring performances by the Loboc Children’s Choir, will facilitate connections between Philippine sellers and invited foreign buyers of ITB Berlin.

Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco emphasized the Philippines’ commitment to showcasing an enhanced and unforgettable experience, driven by the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., to elevate the Filipino brand globally while promoting sustainable tourism and celebrating the nation’s cultural diversity and renowned hospitality.

In addition to showcasing various destinations and products, participating properties will offer unique Philippine packages supporting sustainable and environmental initiatives, aligning with TPB’s commitment to sustainability.

The sustainability efforts of the Philippines will be highlighted by the nomination of the City of Sipalay at the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards, recognizing the “Lakbayon Project” for its transformative impact on Poblacion Beach, including the conservation of sea turtles and mangrove forests.

ITB Berlin, renowned as the world’s largest tourism trade fair, anticipates welcoming 24,000 attendees from around the world at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds from March 5 to 7, 2024.
