AirAsia Philippines has reaffirmed its strong partnership with the Provincial Government of Leyte, reinforcing its commitment to making air travel more accessible, supporting economic development, and boosting tourism across the Eastern Visayas Region.

As part of this renewed collaboration, AirAsia received a warm welcome at the Leyte Provincial Capitol led by Governor Jericho Petilla, Tourism Consultant Frances Ann Petilla, and other local officials. The visit highlighted the airline’s ongoing engagement with key stakeholders in promoting inclusive growth and sustainable travel.

Since launching its Tacloban route in 2009, AirAsia has flown millions of passengers to and from the city, currently operating 28 weekly flights. The airline continues to be a vital partner in regional mobility—especially in times of crisis and recovery.

“Leyte holds a special place in the heart of AirAsia,” said AirAsia Philippines CEO Ricky Isla. “Our partnership endured challenges, including the devastation brought by Typhoon Yolanda, but our commitment to offering affordable fares and reliable service in Eastern Visayas has remained steadfast.”

To celebrate its 16th consecutive year as the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline at the Skytrax Awards, AirAsia is rolling out a major seat sale—its 11th for early 2025—with one-way base fares to and from Tacloban starting at just ₱516. The promo is available for booking until July 3, 2025, for travel between July 2, 2025, and March 31, 2026.

“We understand how meaningful every flight is for the people of Leyte,” added Isla. “Even with ongoing infrastructure repairs such as the San Juanico Bridge, AirAsia remains committed to providing affordable travel that brings families together and connects communities.”

Governor Jericho Petilla praised AirAsia for its enduring support:
“Leyte is a true destination—more than just Kalanggaman. We want all our tourist spots to be known, and AirAsia is helping us achieve that visibility. I’ve always said, this is a two-way partnership. When the time comes that we’re ready to welcome more tourists, I already know which airline we’re partnering with—AirAsia.”

The airline’s contributions during the aftermath of Typhoon Yolanda have left a lasting impact. AirAsia was among the first carriers to respond, donating 250,000 seats to help survivors and reunite families. Through its AirAsia Foundation, nearly ₱100 million was raised to help rebuild homes in Tacloban.

Tourism Consultant Frances Ann Petilla recalled,
“We will never forget what AirAsia did during Yolanda. They were the first to respond, deploying two aircraft for humanitarian missions. These flights helped people leave Tacloban to find work and support their families while the city recovered. That kind of compassion is something we’ll always be grateful for.”

With strengthened ties and a shared vision, AirAsia and the Province of Leyte are setting the stage for a more connected and tourism-driven future in Eastern Visayas.
