Two powerful voices in Original Pilipino Music (OPM) come together for the first time as Sponge Cola and Gigi De Lana release their collaborative single “Naghihilom” on March 6 across major streaming platforms, alongside the premiere of its official music video.

Marking a milestone collaboration for both artists, the track blends Sponge Cola’s signature alternative rock sound with De Lana’s emotionally resonant vocals—creating a deeply moving anthem about healing after heartbreak.

A Song About Healing and Letting Go

“Naghihilom,” which translates to healing, explores the quiet and often complicated journey that follows heartbreak. Rather than rushing through pain, the song reflects on the process of confronting it—sitting with the hurt long enough to understand it, and eventually allowing it to soften.

The track unfolds through textured instrumentation and a slow-burning arrangement characteristic of Sponge Cola’s alternative rock style. Within that sonic landscape, Gigi De Lana delivers a restrained yet powerful vocal performance that amplifies the song’s emotional depth while preserving its raw vulnerability.

For De Lana, the song made an instant impression, even if its full meaning took time to reveal itself.

“When I first heard it, I immediately felt the depth. It was heavy,” she shared. “To be honest, the first time I listened to it, I didn’t fully understand the gravity of it. But when I replayed it a few more times, it slowly revealed itself to me.”

A Natural and Inspiring Collaboration

Beyond the music itself, De Lana described the collaboration as an experience rooted in creative openness and mutual respect.

“From the first meeting pa lang for the song, I felt safe. I felt welcomed. Walang pressure—just pure collaboration and good energy,” she said. “Sponge Cola is so easy to work with. The environment was light, creative, and inspiring. The whole experience felt amazing. Honestly, ayoko nga umalis agad kapag kasama ko sila.”

Sponge Cola frontman Yael Yuzon echoed the same sentiment, expressing hope that listeners will find their own emotions reflected in the track.

“I want people to feel what they need to feel—to remember or forget—and hopefully sing with us,” Yuzon said. “And working with Gigi, andali.”

A Music Video Capturing a Special Moment

The official music video adds another layer of authenticity to the release. It was filmed during the song’s first-ever live performance at a major music festival last January, giving fans in attendance an exclusive preview of the collaboration before its official launch.

Bridging Generations of OPM Fans

“Naghihilom” also represents a meaningful meeting point between two generations of OPM listeners. Sponge Cola, known for their emotionally driven rock anthems and long-standing influence in the local music scene, joins forces with Gigi De Lana, whose powerful vocals, viral performances, and strong digital presence have captured the attention of a new wave of fans.

Together, the artists deliver a song that resonates across audiences—one that reminds listeners that healing may take time, but music can help guide the way.

“Naghihilom” is available on all major streaming platforms starting March 6, with the official music video premiering the same day.
