The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has officially rolled out cashless payment options across all 13 stations of MRT-3, providing a faster and more convenient way for passengers to purchase single-journey tickets.

Commuters pilot test the cashless QRPH payments at MRT-3 stations

In partnership with GCash, the Philippines’ leading finance super app, the initiative enables commuters to use QRPH-powered QR code payments via any e-wallet or bank app. This aligns with the government’s push toward digitalization and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure safer, quicker, and more efficient travel for every Filipino.

“This marks a pivotal shift in Philippine public transport. Embracing cashless systems isn’t just modernization—it’s a transformation,” said Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon. “This collaboration between the public and private sectors supports the President’s vision for a streamlined, digital-first commuting experience.”

With over 350,000 daily MRT-3 riders, the integration of QR payments aims to ease congestion at ticket counters and shorten transaction times.

Oscar Enrico Reyes, Jr., President and CEO of G-Xchange, Inc. (GCash’s mobile wallet operator), highlighted the importance of the partnership:
“Through our collaboration with the DOTr, we’re making commuting simpler and more secure. This is part of our mission to empower Filipinos with accessible digital payment solutions and build a more digitally connected nation.”

To pay using cashless QR at MRT-3 stations, passengers can look for ticket booths that offer QRPH scan-to-pay options when buying single-journey tickets.

The DOTr and GCash continue to work closely together to expand digital payment options, paving the way for a faster, safer, and more seamless commuting experience across the country.
