VinFast RVG Program Explained EV Resale Value Guarantees

For buyers considering an electric vehicle (EV) from a newer or unfamiliar brand, resale value can be one more uncertainty to factor into the purchase decision. VinFast is addressing that concern in the Philippines through its Residual Value Guarantee (RVG) Program, giving eligible buyers a clearer reference point for what their vehicle could be worth in the future.

A brand-new car begins to lose value the moment it leaves the dealership. But while depreciation is expected, the pace at which it happens is much harder to predict. That uncertainty can weigh on buyers deciding between an established automotive name and a newer entrant.

The question is straightforward: What will the vehicle be worth when it is time to let it go?

That question becomes even more significant for EVs, particularly newer brands with limited local resale histories. For Filipino consumers considering an EV, uncertainty surrounding future value can become part of the purchase decision long before the vehicle is eventually offered for sale.

This is the gap VinFast aims to address with its RVG program, which provides eligible buyers with a predetermined reference point for their vehicle’s future value.

Resale Value: A Growing EV Concern

Concerns about EV resale value are not unique to VinFast. A 2025 study on EV adoption in the Philippines found that 48% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that EVs have a lower resale value than conventional fuel-powered vehicles, while another 44% expressed uncertainty about EV resale value.

Similarly, Deloitte’s 2023 Global Automotive Consumer Study found that 19% of Philippine respondents cited uncertain resale value as a concern regarding battery EVs.

For conventional vehicles, buyers can draw on decades of market history—from used-car listings and dealership valuations to word-of-mouth assessments from fellow motorists.

Newer EV brands have less historical data to rely on. And because the Philippine used-car market ultimately depends on what buyers and sellers are willing to accept, there is no guaranteed answer to how much a vehicle will be worth several years after purchase.

VinFast RVG Program Turns Unknown EV Resale Value Into a Predictable Number

VinFast’s Residual Value Guarantee takes a different approach.

Rather than leaving a vehicle’s future value entirely to market forces, the program establishes a predetermined value based on a fixed schedule.

For eligible vehicles, VinFast guarantees up to:

  • 90% of the vehicle’s net retail price after six months
  • 86% after one year
  • 78% after two years
  • 70% after three years

These guarantees remain subject to the program’s eligibility requirements, conditions, and terms.

For example, consider a VinFast VF 5 purchased at a net retail price of ₱1.099 million. Under the program’s 70% three-year guarantee, the vehicle would have a guaranteed value of ₱769,300 after three years, provided it meets the applicable eligibility requirements.

The distinction is important: an RVG does not mean the vehicle will not depreciate. Instead, it provides the buyer with a predetermined reference point and gives VinFast a way to assume part of the vehicle’s future resale-value risk.

With the RVG, qualifying owners have another option when they are ready to move on from their vehicle. Rather than finding a buyer through the open market, they can use the program’s buyback mechanism, with VinFast purchasing the vehicle at the guaranteed value applicable under the program, subject to its terms and conditions.

VinFast: More Than a Resale Guarantee

Resale value is only one part of the ownership equation.

A vehicle becomes easier to own when servicing is convenient, easier to use when charging is accessible, and easier to keep on the road when warranty and aftersales support are clearly defined. It can also become easier to resell when more motorists recognize the brand, understand its vehicles, and have confidence in the ecosystem supporting them.

This is where VinFast’s broader proposition comes into play.

The company has been developing its EV business alongside the RVG program, signaling its intention to establish a long-term presence in the Philippine market.

As of September 2026, VinFast has established a network of 33 dealerships and 59 service centers, while also entering into partnerships with banks and working with local partners to develop a growing charging network.

Beyond expanding its dealership and service-center footprint, VinFast vehicles are covered by warranties of up to 10 years and 200,000 kilometers, depending on the model. The company also offers three years of free charging at V-Green-operated stations, flexible financing, and 24-hour technical and roadside assistance.

A straightforward ownership experience is closely connected to resale value. Accessible charging and dependable maintenance help build the foundation of trust that future buyers will also consider.

This is particularly important in a developing EV market like the Philippines. According to Deloitte, 55% of consumers worry about charging infrastructure, while 36% cite a lack of EV knowledge as a concern.

In other words, building confidence in an EV involves more than simply selling the vehicle. It requires giving buyers reasons to believe that the car will remain practical, supported, and relevant throughout the ownership journey.

Building Confidence for the Next Buyer

An EV’s future value depends in part on an ongoing cycle of trust: accessible parts, practical everyday usability, reliable support, and a healthy second-hand market.

This helps explain why established automotive brands often command stronger used-car prices. Widespread familiarity can translate into buyer confidence, which in turn supports an active resale market for the next generation of vehicle owners.

VinFast is approaching this challenge from two fronts.

The company’s RVG program establishes a predetermined financial floor for the vehicle’s future value, while its expanding charging and aftersales ecosystem aims to make EV ownership more practical within Philippine conditions.

Ultimately, the question many buyers have when considering a newer EV brand is not only “How much does this car cost today?” but also “What happens when I am ready for my next car?”

By addressing that question upfront through a defined resale-value guarantee and a growing ownership ecosystem, VinFast is providing buyers with greater transparency—and potentially making the transition to electric mobility easier to understand, plan for, and trust.
