New York rock icons The Strokes have officially unveiled their long-awaited new album, Reality Awaits—marking their first full-length release in six years—via Cult Records/RCA Records.
The new LP arrives backed by hit singles that have quickly become fan favorites, including “Going Shopping” and “Falling out of Love.”
Recorded in Costa Rica with Rick Rubin
Reality Awaits was recorded in Costa Rica alongside legendary producer Rick Rubin, who previously collaborated with the band on their 2020 Grammy-winning album, The New Abnormal. Following their initial Costa Rican sessions, the band and Rubin continued recording in various studios across the globe wherever inspiration struck.
To document the recording process, The Strokes invited director Johann Rashid to film behind-the-scenes footage in Costa Rica. The resulting short film, In Transit: Part II, serves as a direct sequel to the band’s iconic 2004 documentary In Transit, offering fans an inside look at their creative process.
Star-Studded Visuals and TV Appearances
The band recently released the homage-filled music video for “Going Shopping,” referencing Paul Simon’s classic “You Can Call Me Al” visual. Actor Walton Goggins stars in the video alongside lead singer Julian Casablancas, after shooting on location in Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
Earlier this May, The Strokes also debuted “Falling out of Love” with a live performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
