Noise in busy public spaces affects everyone differently. For many people—especially those with autism or heightened sound sensitivity—even everyday environments like bus terminals or clinics can feel overwhelming.

To address this, Project Inclusion Network (PIN), in partnership with The Misfits Camp, launched Safe Sound, a nationwide initiative aimed at standardizing sound levels in public spaces and promoting “sound responsibility” among Filipinos.

At the heart of the campaign is the Safe Sound Check website, an interactive tool that helps users monitor noise levels around them. The platform not only shows if sound levels exceed comfortable limits but also offers a gentle reminder feature, allowing users to politely encourage others to lower the volume. It also provides clear, accessible information about autism and sound sensitivity, helping the public understand why quieter environments can make a world of difference for some individuals.

But the movement doesn’t stop there. On October 13, a bill was officially filed in Congress to declare October as Safe Sound Month, signaling growing national awareness of how everyday noise impacts lives.
“Safe sound is the first step in educating us—all Filipinos—that we all deserve this. The neurodiverse, the neurotypical, and every Filipino deserve a Safe Sound space,” said Grant Javier, Executive Director of Project Inclusion Network.
While legislation is an important milestone, the Safe Sound campaign reminds everyone that meaningful change begins with daily habits. Checking the sounds around us, turning down loud devices, and being more considerate in shared spaces are simple acts that can make a big difference.

“For once, it’s not just us who have to adjust in loud, crowded spaces. People around us can be more aware and considerate of noise levels,” shared Red Ligot, President of the Philippine Neurodivergent Self Advocates (PhiNSA). “That’s why we’re really looking forward to the success of this project.”

With a growing community of advocates and the possibility of a Safe Sound Month ahead, the campaign marks an important step toward fostering empathy, awareness, and inclusivity—reminding everyone that comfort and consideration go hand in hand.
