Ronin, the blockchain developed by Sky Mavis, creators of Axie Infinity, announced a major milestone in making Web3 more practical for everyday life: PHPC stablecoin payments via QRPH, the Philippines’ national QR payment standard. Through a strengthened partnership with Coins.ph, PHPC will soon be spendable at over 600,000 QRPH-enabled merchants nationwide, once all necessary regulatory permits and authorizations are secured. From groceries and food deliveries to utilities, Filipinos will soon be able to access PHPC directly through the Ronin Wallet.

The announcement, made at the YGG Play Summit, represents the first step in Ronin’s broader strategy to expand digital payments, savings, and remittances across APAC.

Digital Payments in the Philippines
QRPH already powers billions of transactions each year and is central to the Philippines’ rapidly growing digital payments ecosystem. According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), digital payments now account for 57.4% of all retail transactions, surpassing national targets, while over 66.4% of person-to-merchant payments are already digital.

The Philippines also remains one of the world’s largest recipients of remittances, with over US$40.2 billion in 2024, highlighting both the scale of value flowing into the country and the growing demand for efficient, flexible payment options.

A Game-Changer for On-Chain Payments
“Once we secure the necessary permits, integrating PHPC into the QRPH network by 2026 will be transformative,” said Wei Zhou, Coins.ph CEO. “Soon, anyone will be able to pay with PHPC simply by scanning a QR code via the Ronin Wallet—combining the convenience of mobile wallets with the speed and security of on-chain value. This is when digital assets become truly useful in everyday life.”

Launched in July 2024, PHPC is a Philippine peso–backed stablecoin built on Ronin and currently operating within the BSP sandbox. One PHPC is pegged to one Philippine peso, with liquidity and reserves managed by Coins.ph, a BSP-regulated virtual asset service provider.

Bridging Gaming and Everyday Finance
Earlier this year, Ronin shared its vision of expanding beyond gaming to support savings, spending, and remittances across APAC. The collaboration with Coins.ph is a critical first step toward that goal. The Philippines, a hub for Web3 gaming, is now uniquely positioned to connect on-chain value with real-world transactions.

“This integration completes the vision we first glimpsed when merchants began accepting SLP and AXS during the 2021 pandemic,” said Jeffrey Zirlin, Co-Founder of Sky Mavis. “Millions of Ronin Wallet users will soon seamlessly convert in-game assets into everyday essentials like food, transportation, and utilities.”

Today, the Ronin Wallet is where millions play and earn; soon, it may also become the hub where they pay, save, and participate in daily financial activity. This announcement lays the foundation for that next chapter, pending regulatory approval and compliance.
