The hit comedy-drama “Call Me Mother” emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival Gabi ng Parangal, taking home four major awards during the ceremony held on December 27.

Leading the night’s triumph was Vice Ganda, who won Best Actor for his acclaimed portrayal of a queer mother—a performance that resonated deeply with audiences and critics alike. Visibly moved during his acceptance speech, Vice reflected on the significance of the moment.

“Mas ine-expect kong ‘di mananalo. Nakikita, nagugustuhan, pero hindi pinipili o pinipili pero ‘di maaari. But tonight, maaari na. Salamat dahil nakita niyo po ako. It’s really 2025 and it is really possible, and it is real. Queer people can be best actors,” Vice said.

Adding to the film’s accolades, child actor Lucas Andalio was named Best Child Performer for his heartfelt performance as Angelo, the son of Twinkle and Mara—the characters portrayed by Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre, respectively.

“Call Me Mother” also earned the 3rd Best Picture and Gender Sensitivity awards, further underscoring its impact and relevance.

Director Jun Robles Lana expressed his gratitude, calling the film deeply personal.

“Napaka-personal sa akin ng pelikulang ito. Maraming salamat sa lahat ng producers namin. Maraming salamat, Meme Vice, dahil pinagkatiwalaan mo uli ako. Nadine, maraming salamat—bahagi ka na ng pamilya namin, at sana makagawa pa tayo ng marami pang pelikula,” he shared.

Meanwhile, the romantic-comedy “Love You So Bad” also received special recognition during the awards night. Bianca De Vera was named Montesa Female Star of the Night, while Will Ashley and Dustin Yu were honored as Montesa Male Stars of the Night.

Continuing to draw audiences nationwide, “Call Me Mother” has touched families with its heartfelt exploration of motherhood in all its forms. The film follows two devoted mothers—Twinkle (Vice Ganda), a queer adoptive mother to Angelo (Lucas Andalio), and Mara (Nadine Lustre), his biological mother—who initially team up in the pageant world but ultimately find themselves navigating love, sacrifice, and the true meaning of family.

Produced by Star Cinema, The IdeaFirst Company, and Viva Films, “Call Me Mother” is now showing in cinemas nationwide.
