A powerhouse ensemble of award-winning actresses and acclaimed theater performers joins the Tony Award winner in a Filipino adaptation of Federico García Lorca’s classic drama.
Theatre Group Asia (TGA) has officially revealed the additional cast members joining Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga in its highly anticipated production of Ang Tahanan ni Bernarda Alba, bringing together some of the country’s most accomplished theater and screen talents.
Salonga takes on the title role of Bernarda Alba, a strict and domineering matriarch whose iron rule over her household sets the stage for a dramatic struggle between tradition, authority, and the desire for freedom.
Joining her are eight actresses who will portray the women living under Bernarda’s roof.
Among them is Sheila Francisco, a celebrated theater actress known for her performances in Ang Huling El Bimbo and Bar Boys: A New Musical. She will portray María Josefa, Bernarda’s elderly mother.
Maita Ponce, a renowned musical theater performer and recipient of the 2025 Manila Society of Theater Reviewers Award for Best Performance of a Lead Actor in a Musical for Si Faust! After Goethe, will play Angustias, Bernarda’s eldest daughter.
Also joining the cast is Toni Go-Yadao, a senior member of Tanghalang Pilipino’s Actors Company, who will portray Magdalena.
Maronne Cruz, known for her theater performances in Hair, Waitress, The Band’s Visit, and Ang Huling El Bimbo, takes on the role of Amelia.
Meanwhile, Mikaela Regis, whose theater credits include A Chorus Line, Shrek The Musical, Mula sa Buwan, and Bar Boys, will portray Martirio.
Award-winning actress Gabby Padilla, who won Best Actress at the 2024 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival for Kono Basho, will play Adela, Bernarda’s youngest daughter, whose desire for freedom challenges her mother’s authority.
Completing the ensemble are veteran theater actress Frances Makil-Ignacio, who will portray Poncia, Bernarda’s longtime housekeeper and confidante, and Jam Binay, who will take on the role of Blanca, another household servant.
Adapted and directed by acclaimed playwright and theater director Chay Yew, the Filipino staging is based on Federico García Lorca’s classic play The House of Bernarda Alba, with Filipino translation by Guelan Varela-Luarca.
The story follows Bernarda after the death of her second husband, when she imposes an eight-year mourning period on her five daughters. As their individual desires, frustrations, and dreams clash with their mother’s rigid expectations, tensions within the household begin to unravel.
The production explores themes of patriarchy, repression, family expectations, and the struggle for independence—issues that continue to resonate with contemporary Filipino audiences.
Ang Tahanan ni Bernarda Alba is scheduled to open in February 2027 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati.
The production is the second offering of Theatre Group Asia’s 2026–2027 Season of Power, following The Notebook: The Musical.
Tara na sa tahanan ni Bernarda Alba—kung saan ang kapangyarihan, tradisyon, at paghahangad ng kalayaan ay magtatagpo sa entablado.
