Lampara Books is pushing forward its advocacy for literacy and numeracy reform through its latest collection of educational materials aimed at helping address the Philippines’ reading crisis.
During a recent media event, the publisher emphasized that the learning gap should not be viewed as a failure of children but as a reflection of systemic challenges. Literacy and numeracy development, they said, must be treated as a movement and long-term commitment toward educational reform.

Advocacy Through Storytelling
Featured titles such as Kids Have Rights! by Michellan Sarile-Agalao promote child rights education through child-friendly storytelling. The book uses gentle illustrations, including a turtle character, to help avoid triggering sensitive emotions while making learning more approachable for young readers.
Meanwhile, Magbasa Tayo! / Let’s Read! by Daisy Jane Calado and Victor Villanueva helps struggling readers form complete sentences and improve comprehension skills. The two authors are also behind other educational resources, including the K–3 Reading Packages by Daisy Jane Calado and the Math-Talas! Numeracy Learning Kit, co-authored by Daisy Jane Calado and Jacob Raphael Cunanan. These titles further support Lampara’s mission to strengthen both literacy and numeracy skills among young Filipino learners.

The new materials aim to make learning more engaging by combining storytelling with reading and math concepts. Through intervention-based and culturally relevant approaches, the goal is to help children build confidence in reading, counting, and logical thinking.
Promoting Filipino Stories and Values
Another highlight in the collection is the Filipino board books by Eugene Y. Evasco. These durable and imaginative board books are rooted in Filipino language and culture, created especially for the youngest readers. The project has long been a dream, as producing board books can be both time-consuming and costly. More importantly, the series offers imagery, experiences, and stories that feel close to the everyday lives of Filipino children—making early reading more meaningful and relatable.

The publisher also continues to develop safety education and independent narrative series that explore empathy, curiosity, and personal growth through accessible storytelling.
Shared Responsibility in Literacy Development
The authors also reminded parents that literacy development is a shared responsibility. Setting time to read with children and modeling reading habits can help nurture a lifelong love for learning.
Through its 2026 releases, Lampara Books remains committed to helping Filipino children not only learn how to read but also gain the confidence to understand, think, and imagine.
