The song serves as a lighthearted tribute to the legendary teleserye antihero, blending theatrical screen drama with a fun, danceable beat.

Drawing inspiration from her decades of unforgettable villain roles, veteran actress and TV host Gladys Reyes officially breaks into the music industry with the novelty pop anthem “Primera Kontrabida.”

Beyond its theatrical charm, the novelty anthem honors the Star Magic talent’s legendary status as the industry’s ultimate villainess. At the same time, it delivers a deeper message, warning audiences that real-world malevolence takes the form of deceit, manipulation, and avarice rather than on-screen drama.

To build anticipation for the music release, StarPop shared a series of nostalgic photos showcasing some of Gladys’ most iconic on-screen personas. The teaser highlighted her legendary roles, including Betsy in “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Reyes”, Mayet in “And the

Breadwinner Is…”, Salve in “Here Comes the Groom”, and her definitive portrayal of Clara in the classic “Mara Clara”.

Audiences got their first live taste of the track during the special “Primera Kontrabida Sings” event, hosted on August 1 at the Riser Lounge, where Gladys delivered an unforgettable debut performance.

The single boasts top-tier musical backing, having been written by ABS-CBN Music’s creative director Jonathan Manalo. Manalo also shared production duties with StarPop label executive Roque “Rox” Santos to bring the campy anthem to life.

The song is out now on music streaming platforms. For more details on Glady’s music, follow StarPop on Facebook, X, Instagram, and TikTok.
