MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of World Liver Day, Essentiale Forte P brought liver health into the spotlight through a two-day immersive experience titled “Atay Aksyon Nation,” held on April 18 and 19 at One Ayala.

The initiative transformed the venue into a dynamic and interactive hub focused on liver care, aiming to address the growing concern around liver health in the Philippines. With awareness still relatively low, the event sought to empower Filipinos with knowledge, encourage early detection, and promote proactive health practices.

“Atay Aksyon Nation” featured a range of engaging activities designed to make liver health education more accessible. Guests explored interactive booths, participated in hands-on learning stations, and received free on-site consultations with medical professionals. These consultations provided personalized guidance, helping attendees better understand their liver health and the steps they can take to protect it.

One of the highlights of the event was the series of expert-led talks from healthcare professionals and advocates. Dr. Anna Guia Limpoco emphasized the critical role of the liver, noting that it performs over 500 essential functions in the body. She also pointed out that in the Philippines, an estimated 80 million people are affected by liver disease, with up to 30 percent potentially unaware due to the absence of symptoms.

She highlighted a common concern among patients: many only seek medical attention when symptoms become severe. “When you are still functioning well and do not feel sick, you tend to skip medical check-ups,” she explained, underscoring the importance of regular monitoring and early intervention.

Meanwhile, Dr. Karen De Luna stressed the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle, including proper nutrition and regular exercise, as key factors in liver health. She also noted that some individuals may require additional support through hepatoprotective medicines, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Adding a relatable voice to the advocacy was Ogie Alcasid, also known as “Tatay Atay,” who encouraged Filipinos to take early action when it comes to their liver health. He shared that caring for the liver is not just about individual well-being but also about being present and healthy for one’s family. He emphasized that because the liver often shows no early warning signs, it is important to make liver care a consistent part of everyday life.

According to Gheck Barlis, the campaign aims to make liver care more relatable and actionable. He highlighted that many Filipinos tend to overlook liver health until serious issues arise, reinforcing the need for awareness and early intervention beyond just one day of observance.

To further support the initiative, Mercury Drug partnered with Essentiale by setting up an on-site booth, making products readily available to event attendees. The event also featured engaging stage programs, including educational videos and interactive segments that kept guests informed and involved throughout the experience.

Extending its impact beyond the event, Essentiale launched a buy-and-donate program in partnership with the Mercury Drug Foundation. For every purchase of ten Essentiale Forte P capsules, one capsule will be donated to support underserved communities. Additionally, a year-long SGPT testing initiative will be rolled out in selected Mercury Drug branches, encouraging more Filipinos to monitor their liver health regularly.

“Atay Aksyon Nation” reflects Essentiale’s broader vision of building a liver-healthy nation where Filipinos are informed, empowered, and proactive. By turning awareness into action, the campaign highlights the importance of making liver care a daily priority, not just a once-a-year conversation.
