Chevron Philippines Inc. (CPI) continues to strengthen its environmental stewardship as it successfully released 146 Olive Ridley sea turtle hatchlings into the open waters of Batangas, marking another hopeful step for local marine conservation.

The uplifting release follows the company’s coastal cleanup activity held nearly five months earlier along the Batangas terminal shoreline. The initiative helped prepare a safer nesting environment for sea turtles by reducing marine waste and supporting healthier coastal habitats.

Around 250 volunteers joined the September cleanup drive, collecting 232 sacks of trash along the shore. The activity was made possible through partnerships with local government units, private organizations, and community groups, including the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, MENRO, CENRO, and Barangay Danglayan.

The conservation effort also extends beyond cleanups. CPI works closely with partners such as MENRO, CENRO, and PCGA in conducting training programs and protecting sea turtles during their nesting and mating seasons.

The Olive Ridley sea turtle is among the most abundant sea turtle species, yet it remains vulnerable to environmental threats. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed the species at risk of extinction due to illegal wildlife trade, egg harvesting, plastic pollution, and shrinking coastal nesting spaces.

Through its long-running Coastal Cleanup program since 2007, Chevron has helped support the growth of the local turtle population in Batangas. As of January 2026, more than 4,261 hatchlings have been recorded, reflecting the positive impact of sustained conservation work.

CPI Lead Corporate Affairs Advisor Atty. Raissa Bautista emphasized that protecting the environment requires continuous effort and collaboration with partners and volunteers. Chevron Philippines’ coastal conservation initiatives remain part of its broader sustainability commitment as it works with communities to help preserve marine biodiversity for future generations.
