Following its highly successful global debut, Prime Video has officially greenlit a second season of its breakout thriller, Carrie. Helmed by visionary showrunner and executive producer Mike Flanagan alongside horror master Stephen King, the urgent, modern reimagining of the classic tale stars Summer H. Howell in a critically lauded breakout performance as Carrie White, with Samantha Sloyan delivering a powerhouse role as her mother, Margaret White.
The freshman series launched on October 7, 2026, and immediately skyrocketed to the number-one spot on Prime Video in over 105 countries. Flanagan’s contemporary adaptation breathes new depth into the iconic characters, analyzing the unique psychological cruelty and societal pressures Carrie navigates in today’s world.
While traditional adaptations peak at the infamous prom night, this iteration promises that Carrie’s story is far from over. The upcoming second season will venture into uncharted territory, with Flanagan and King teasing massive character arcs, new revelations, and plenty of signature shocking twists. For viewers looking to catch up before the next chapter unfolds, all eight episodes of Carrie Season One are currently streaming exclusively on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
“Carrie is connecting with both longtime Stephen King fans and a new generation altogether — including young adults and international audiences, with particular strength among female viewers,” said Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “It speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.”
“For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next,” said showrunner Mike Flanagan.
“I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling,” said executive producer Stephen King
About Carrie Season 1:
Adapted for television for the very first time, this bold and contemporary take on Stephen King’s legendary debut novel transforms the classic coming-of-age story into a timely thriller. Conceptualized by visionary showrunner Mike Flanagan, the series centers on Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), a sheltered high school outcast who grew up isolated under the watchful eye of her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). When her father’s sudden death forces her into the harsh reality of public school, Carrie must contend with a viral cyberbullying scandal, the toxic pressures of the social media era, and the terrifying emergence of telekinetic abilities that awaken alongside her adolescence.
Summer H. Howell lands the iconic title role in a powerhouse performance, securing the part after beating out nearly 1,500 actors in an extensive global search. Joining her as series regulars is a stacked ensemble:
• Samantha Sloyan (The Pitt) as Margaret White
• Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) as Sue Snell
• Alison Thornton (Fire Country) as Chris Hargensen
• Joel Oulette (My Life with the Walter Boys) as Tommy Ross

Produced by Amazon MGM Studios, the series is written and executive produced by Flanagan (Midnight Mass), with Stephen King also serving as executive producer. Both creative titans are locked in to guide the upcoming sophomore season.
Flanagan personally directed four chapters of the first season (Episodes 1, 2, 7, and 8). The remaining episodes were divided among a talented roster of guest directors:
