Many devoted pet owners in the Philippines are willing to go above and beyond for their beloved dogs and cats, cherishing the precious companionship these furry friends provide. To assist these pet parents in reciprocating the unwavering love they receive, BDO Insure has collaborated with Pioneer Insurance to introduce affordable and customizable Pet Dog and Cat Insurance plans.

Ed Ramirez, Vice President of BDO Insure, highlights that the Pet Dog and Cat Insurance, underwritten by Pioneer, offers pet parents an added layer of peace of mind when facing unexpected situations involving their furry family members.

Ramirez shares, “A 2021 Rakuten survey revealed that 67% of the Philippine population are proud dog owners, making it the largest dog ownership population in Asia, and 43% are cat owners, ranking second-highest across Asia. Our roles as pet parents have evolved significantly, moving beyond simply sharing table scraps with our dogs and cats. Our deep affection for these furry companions served as the inspiration behind this product, where BDO Insure and Pioneer prioritize the PET acronym: P for Personalization, E for Ease, and T for True Affordability.”

This innovative pet insurance offering is the first and only one of its kind in the country, enabling pet parents, often referred to as “furents,” to personalize their coverage by mixing and matching benefits to align with their and their pets’ unique lifestyles. Available in four plans starting at just P560, the foundational insurance covers vet expenses for Covered Accidents, such as bone fractures, burns, drownings, bite wounds, and other events defined in the policy. Dog and cat owners can then choose to add additional coverages, including vet reimbursement for Covered Illnesses, vet reimbursement for acute dental conditions, accidental death or essential euthanasia, pet international travel emergency vet treatment, petnap coverage, or pet owner’s liability protection.

Lorenzo Chan Jr., the Head of Pioneer Group, expressed that this insurance product represents Pioneer Insurance’s dedication to promoting pet welfare and fostering responsible pet ownership.

“Our dogs and cats aren’t just our pets; they’re cherished members of our families. Through our collaboration with BDO Insure, we are committed to assisting pet parents in fulfilling their duty of providing adequate and appropriate care, attention, and support to their pets, all without straining their finances,” Chan emphasized.

In the spirit of inclusivity, both BDOI and Pioneer extend a warm welcome to all breeds and mixed breeds of dogs and cats, as young as 3 months old, to be insured. This even includes beloved “aspins” and “puspins” with vet cards. Older pets can also benefit from insurance coverage, as long as they are no older than 6 years old. Once insured, their coverage can be renewed until they reach the age of 12.

To promote this product, BDO Insure and Pioneer have participated in a series of SM Super Pets Club Caravan events. During these events, pet parents were treated to an array of delightful activities, including the Doggie Boot Camp, Super Pet Fur Show, and Meet & Greet sessions with SM Super Pets Club ambassador Show Suzuki and his furry companion, Gonta. These engaging events took place on weekends from August 12 to September 3, 2023, at eight pet-friendly SM malls.
