Prepare to feel every emotion as the highly anticipated Philippine adaptation of the Korean hit drama “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” premieres July 21 on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5, with early streaming on Netflix (July 18) and iWant (July 19).

Headlined by Anne Curtis, Joshua Garcia, and Carlo Aquino, the series delivers a deeply moving story of trauma, healing, and love—reimagined through the lens of Filipino culture and values.

A Story of Broken Pasts and Brave Healing

Joshua Garcia takes on the role of Patpat Gonzales, a devoted psychiatric ward caregiver who has long placed his life on hold to care for his older brother, Matmat (played by Carlo Aquino), a person with autism. Their quiet world is upended when they meet Mia Hernandez (Anne Curtis), a brilliant yet emotionally withdrawn children’s book author with a haunting past.

As their paths intertwine, the three must confront buried pain and emotional scars from childhood. Together, they embark on a transformative journey of healing, self-acceptance, and discovering that love is possible—even for the most wounded hearts.

A Filipino Take on a Global Story

Director Mae Cruz-Alviar shared how the series was carefully crafted to resonate with Filipino viewers while still staying true to the essence of the original:

“Mental health is still a sensitive and unfamiliar topic to many. We took great care in how we told the story—so audiences could understand and connect without feeling overwhelmed. It’s about guiding them gently into a space of awareness and empathy.”

Anne Curtis, who returns to primetime television with this role, described the project as both meaningful and personal:

“This is a universal story. It’s about pain, love, and healing—something every Filipino can relate to, whether through family or friendship. It’s a beautiful journey of finding hope.”

Joshua Garcia opened up about connecting with his character:

“I see myself in Patpat. We’re both loving brothers and we’ve both experienced longing for a mother. Even the burnout he feels—I’ve felt it too.”

Meanwhile, Carlo Aquino immersed himself in autism advocacy and education in preparation for his role:

“I wanted to approach Matmat’s character with authenticity and respect. I spent time in special schools and underwent workshops to understand the world he lives in.”

A Powerhouse Ensemble Cast

Joining the lead trio is an impressive ensemble of veteran and rising stars, including Rio Locsin, Bobot Mortiz, Michael De Mesa, Maricel Laxa, Agot Isidro, Enchong Dee, Kaori Oinuma, Bodjie Pascua, Ana Abad Santos, Sharmaine Suarez, Xyriel Manabat, Louise Abuel, Francis Magundayao, Alora Sasam, Alyssa Muhlach, Bianca De Vera, Aljon Mendoza, and Mark Oblea.

The series is directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar and Raymond Ocampo, with Henry Quitain as creative producer, and Des M. De Guzman as business unit head for Star Creatives.
