Acclaimed Migrant Drama ‘Enjoy Your Stay’ Set to Open Cinemalaya 22

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), in partnership with Belgium’s Be For Films, has announced that Enjoy Your Stay will officially open the 22nd Cinemalaya Filipino Independent Film Festival.

Fresh off its world premiere in the Panorama section of the 2026 Berlin International Film Festival, the highly anticipated feature will make its Philippine debut on August 6, 2026, at 7:30 PM. The screening will take place at Red Carpet Cinemas 1 & 2, located in Shangri-La Plaza.

Unveiling the Unseen Realities of Migrant Labor

Directed by Dominik Locher with a screenplay penned by Honeylyn Joy Alipio, Enjoy Your Stay is set against the sweeping backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The narrative follows Luz, an undocumented Filipina working at a luxury ski resort. As Luz juggles the grueling physical demands of her job and the constant anxiety of her legal status, the film pulls back the curtain on the harsh realities migrant workers face beneath the surface of high-end tourism and privilege.

The film aligns closely with this year’s festival theme, “Cinemalaya 22: Reel Reflections,” which honors cinema as a mirror to lived experiences and a tool for understanding the broader human condition. Since its international debut, the movie has won widespread praise for its sharp commentary on economic inequality and labor exploitation.

A Showcase of World-Class Filipino Talent

International critics and audiences have particularly lauded the powerhouse performance of lead actress Mercedes Cabral. Cabral, who first gained global recognition through her work with visionary director Brillante Mendoza in Serbis (2008) and Kinatay (2009), anchors a stellar cast. He emphasized that the film serves as further proof of the global caliber of local artists. “Our actresses – when given the chance – can prove that they are nothing short of being world class.”

Screening Details and Public Access

Following its launch at Cinemalaya, local audiences will have another chance to view the film. The FDCP has confirmed that Enjoy Your Stay will join the upcoming lineup of “FDCP Presents: A Curation of World Cinema,” a program dedicated to bringing celebrated international titles to the Philippines.

Admission to the opening night screening at Cinemalaya is free to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
