The six-track release deals with braving the challenges in life despite brokenness and pain
The vowels they orbit, a Filipino indie pop/rock band, has finally dropped their highly anticipated sophomore EP, tuloy tuloy tuloy!, which follows their acclaimed first record, Ang Unang Ikot. The EP was released under Sony Music Entertainment and showcases the band’s lyrical and musical growth while retaining the well-rounded charm that made them an instant favorite.
The EP’s themes revolve around persevering through heartbreak and facing life’s challenges with renewed determination. It also encourages taking control of one’s own story to make it better and embracing brokenness with hope for healing and improvement. According to the band, the EP is about “finding ourselves caught in the cycle of our own emotions, yet still choosing to move forward.”
Produced by Rye Sarmiento, guitarist of 6cyclemind and Banda Ni Kleggy, the EP was recorded during a six-day lock-in session in 2021 at Backdoor Recording Studio. Sarmiento drew inspiration from iconic alt-pop acts The Cardigans and Moonpools & Caterpillars to capture the ’90s sound in terms of arrangement and vibe while maintaining the band’s indie pop influences with a more organic, rock-oriented direction.
Lead vocalist/guitarist Nikka Melchor wrote and sang most of the songs, with keyboardist Hannah dela Cruz and drummer Jeremy Sayas contributing their compositions. The EP features the focus track “Sandali,” written by Nikka during the start of the pandemic, which talks about the importance of slowing down and finding light amidst everything.
The EP release will be accompanied by a launch on March 11, 2023, at the 70s Bistro in Quezon City, featuring performances by the vowels they orbit, I Belong To The Zoo, Autotelic, syd hartha, Better Days, Hey June!, and Banda Ni Kleggy.
The vowels they orbit’s tuloy tuloy tuloy! is now available on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Entertainment.
