Filipino indie pop band Carousel Casualties leans into quiet longing and late-night solitude in their newest release, the dream-pop tinged single “nananabik.”

Released just in time for the drizzly, introspective season, the track captures the uneasy stillness of the early hours—when sleep refuses to come and the urge to reach out to someone lingers in the mind, even as restraint takes over. It is the sound of hesitation, longing, and unresolved emotion all unfolding in real time.
Known for their slice-of-life storytelling and emotionally textured indie pop, Carousel Casualties continues to build on their signature sound—one that turns everyday moments into cinematic fragments of young adulthood. Following tracks like “Leona,” “season 1 episode 43,” and the viral “hindi ko alam,” the band returns with a piece that feels both familiar and more sonically elusive—softly glowing yet quietly unsettled.
The official artwork for “nananabik” reflects this mood: understated, atmospheric, and suspended in emotional ambiguity.
For vocalist and primary songwriter Emmie Villegas, the song is rooted in a very specific internal scene.
“You pace around your apartment like a lunatic craving for answers, but then you go back to bed. You close your eyes and try to fall asleep… you miserably fail, of course,” Villegas shared, describing the song as an emotional loop that never quite resolves. At its core, “nananabik” lives in that tension between wanting to reach out and choosing not to—repeating itself like a thought you can’t turn off.
Villegas adds that the band often draws inspiration from film and television structures. “We really like making songs based on TV shows and films. Just imagine that ‘nananabik’ is one of those films that’s open to interpretation.”
With its hazy textures and restrained emotional pull, “nananabik” feels like a scene that never cuts away—just lingers, breathes, and fades without closure.
“nananabik” is now available on all major streaming platforms. Follow Carousel Casualties on social media for updates and upcoming live shows.
