The Philippine motorcycle industry continues to surge ahead in 2025, with the latest data from the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association, Inc. (MDPPA) showing steady and robust year-on-year growth in unit sales over the first eight months of the year.

In August 2025, motorcycle sales hit 158,228 units, marking an 18.4% increase from the 133,689 units sold during the same month last year. From January to August, total sales reached 1,227,160 units, up 11.8% compared to 1,098,056 units during the same period in 2024.

This consistent upward trend reflects the continued demand for motorcycles as practical, affordable, and efficient mobility solutions amid rising fuel costs and growing traffic congestion across major cities.

Earlier this year, the MDPPA forecasted a 5% overall industry growth for 2025, driven by strong consumer demand, the expansion of delivery and mobility services, and the widespread appeal of motorcycles as a reliable mode of transportation.

Automatic motorcycles remain the preferred choice for Filipino riders, with August 2025 sales reaching 106,382 units, up 24.8% from 85,212 units last year. Mopeds also remain a staple on the road, with 21,805 units sold, a 3% increase, while business motorcycles saw a solid 14.4% growth, climbing to 26,399 units sold versus 23,080 units in August 2024.

Meanwhile, the “Others” category—which includes street models, big bikes, off-road units, three-wheelers, and electric motorcycles—recorded 3,642 units sold in August 2025, compared to 4,220 units a year earlier, a 13.7% dip attributed to shifting consumer preferences.

“Despite declines in select segments, the industry remains in a healthy position,” said Engr. Alexander A. Cumpas, MDPPA President. “We are confident that the broad appeal and practicality of motorcycles will continue to sustain this momentum. This growth is a testament to the enduring role of motorcycles in the everyday lives of Filipinos—underscoring a resilient, adaptive, and evolving industry.”
