As part of its continued commitment to sustainability and community engagement, Savoy Hotel Manila brought its “Plant a Sampaguita” advocacy to two of Pasay City’s most historic institutions—helping preserve a timeless symbol of Filipino identity for future generations.
On June 3, 2026, Savoy Hotel Manila’s leaders and associates embarked on a meaningful outreach to Unang Paaralang Bayan ng Pasay and Philippine School for the Deaf, both of which have served the community for over a century.
The first stop was Unang Paaralang Bayan ng Pasay along P. Burgos Street, where the team was warmly received by Principal Errol Ruiz. The school provided an elevated plant box where Sampaguita seedlings were carefully planted. During the visit, Principal Ruiz highlighted the institution’s vital role as an Alternative Learning System (ALS) Community Center, supporting underserved individuals in completing their secondary education through government programs.
The initiative continued at the Philippine School for the Deaf, founded in 1907. With the support of Principal Jordan Madronio, another Sampaguita plant box was installed within the school grounds, where fresh seedlings were planted to further promote the propagation of the country’s national flower.
Both institutions embraced the advocacy, recognizing the Sampaguita’s enduring symbolism of love, honor, dignity, and healing. As its presence becomes increasingly rare in urban communities, initiatives like “Plant a Sampaguita” play a crucial role in safeguarding this cherished cultural emblem.
“We believe that hospitality extends beyond our hotel walls,” shared Den Navarro. “Just as we care for our guests, we also have a responsibility to care for our communities, our environment, and the heritage that defines us as Filipinos. Through this initiative, we hope to create a lasting impact that future generations can continue to appreciate.”
The day also included a courtesy visit to Emi Calixto-Rubiano, a strong advocate of green tourism and heritage preservation. The hotel team shared the advocacy with the city mayor, expressing gratitude for her support in promoting the Sampaguita across Pasay.
The “Plant a Sampaguita” initiative is part of the MEGreen Program of Megaworld Hotels & Resorts, which champions sustainability, environmental stewardship, and community development across its properties.
