Pettr, the Philippines’ first all-in-one petcare superapp under 917Ventures, has joined forces with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to champion responsible pet ownership while highlighting the powerful role pets play in emotional healing and mental well-being.

As part of the Angel Pets Advocacy, Research, and Learning (ARAL) session under DSWD’s Angel Pets Project, Pettr actively supported an event focused on integrating animal-assisted therapy into the lives of those affected by trauma, abuse, neglect, or psychosocial disabilities.

Led by DSWD’s Social Technology Bureau, the ARAL session gathered social workers, pet advocates, and community members for a meaningful dialogue on humane pet care—from proper training and lifelong commitment to the critical role of kapon (pet sterilization) in managing overpopulation and promoting animal health.

“Every pet deserves proper care, and every pet parent deserves support,” said Martin Luchangco, General Manager of Pettr. “We see technology as a bridge to make responsible pet parenting more accessible. Through our platform, we aim to empower fur parents across the country—making petcare services like grooming, vet consultations, and pet essentials just a few taps away.”

Pettr’s participation also underscored how digital innovation can drive education, compassion, and accessibility in animal welfare. With easy access to services through the Pettr app, fur parents are equipped to give their pets the best care—while also becoming more informed and responsible guardians.

Jhann Paul Cornel of DSWD emphasized the program’s mission to foster a culture of kindness and empathy.

“Together with PAWS and Pettr, we’re promoting peaceful coexistence between people and animals. We continue to remind communities: ‘If you don’t like them, don’t hurt them.’

One of the highlights of the session was an open call for community members to nominate well-socialized pets for the Dr. Dog Program, PAWS’ signature animal-assisted therapy initiative. Founded by Jill Robinson of Animals Asia, Dr. Dog deploys trained “canine consultants” to hospitals, care homes, orphanages, and schools—bringing comfort, connection, and healing where it’s needed most.

Sharon Yap of PAWS added:

“Through projects like Angel Pets and Dr. Dog, we’re not just advocating for animals—we’re nurturing compassion for the people whose lives they touch.”

This collaboration between Pettr, DSWD, and PAWS reflects a shared commitment to building a more caring society—one where animals are respected, pet care is accessible, and emotional healing is supported through the incredible bond between humans and their furry companions.
