ASUS Reinforces Dedication Sustainable Future Recycling Over Ton of Waste with CORA

ASUS concludes its collaboration with the nonprofit organization CORA after a triumphant three-phase project that engaged ASUS employees, partners, dealers, and the general public in its mission to promote sustainability and curtail plastic waste.

ASUS reaffirms its dedication to an extraordinary and sustainable future, emphasizing a circular economy, and achieving a significant milestone by gathering 1.67 tons of plastic and other recyclable materials through a series of initiatives in partnership with the nonprofit organization Communities Organized for Resource Allocation (CORA). The ASUS x CORA sustainability campaign unfolded across three distinct phases, each engaging a wide array of stakeholders. These efforts aimed to foster eco-friendly products, minimize waste, enhance awareness of the circular economy and climate action, and educate individuals on embracing an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

“At ASUS, we firmly believe that innovation and sustainability are inherently linked. As we continue to innovate our product offerings, our commitment to sustainability remains unwavering. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those who contributed to our meaningful mission, including our partner CORA, ASUS Philippines employees, partners, dealers, and the Filipino community. Together, we have worked to protect and preserve our environment by recycling plastic and other everyday waste, granting them a second life, and fostering a sustainable and promising future for both people and the planet,” remarked George Su, ASUS Philippines Country Manager.

In 2007, ASUS introduced its first eco-friendly notebook, the ASUS Bamboo Series, which garnered numerous environmental certifications and accolades for its groundbreaking engineering and design. Earlier this year, ASUS launched the Zenbook S 13 OLED (UX5304), recognized as the most sustainable Zenbook ever. This product underscores the company’s 2025 Sustainability Goals and its deep commitment to environmental stewardship. As a significant step towards circular product design, the Zenbook S 13 OLED is an EPEAT Gold registered product, with a positive environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle – from material usage and production to assembly, usage, and end-of-life considerations.

Circular economy starts with us

ASUS organized a knowledge-sharing event for its employees titled “ASUStainable Solution: Circular Economy Starts with Us.” The event featured CORA and its Circular Center Women Champions (CCWC), who presented the current plastic situation in the country. They educated ASUS employees on how they could contribute to a circular economy by recycling common household waste, such as plastic bottles. In addition to promoting personal change, the workshop encouraged employees to share their newfound knowledge with their families and friends.

Following the seminar, ASUS employees participated in a two-month recycling activity during which they collected plastic bottles, soft plastics, sibak, colored paper, and cartons. Dedicated trash bins were set up in the ASUS office through CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center pop-up, resulting in a total of 840.6 kg of waste collected. This waste was then sent to CORA’s partner, Sentinel Upcycling Technologies, for transformation into high-quality products such as benches, school chairs, and mobile trash bins.

As part of the ASUS 2025 Sustainability Goals, under the innovation and value creation pillar, ASUS also donated two ASUS Zenbook laptops to CORA to support their administrative tasks. This includes data recording for their Eco-Ikot Center in Parañaque City and managing other programs and campaigns in collaboration with public and private organizations.

The CORA Eco-Ikot Center is an inclusive and comprehensive recycling system that enables communities to exchange recyclables for points, which can be redeemed for various incentives. As the first of its kind in the Philippines and the world, CORA’s Eco-Ikot Center provides a sustainable solution to the plastic pollution crisis.

ASUS x CORA Mall Caravan

In the second phase, ASUS introduced CORA Eco-Ikot Center pop-ups at three ASUS Exclusive Stores, making it convenient for Filipinos to recycle and reduce plastic waste. People were able to exchange clean and dry plastic bottles for ASUS and CORA merchandise. The Circular Center Women Champions (CCWCs) provided education to them and other mall visitors about the concept of a circular economy and the advantages of recycling common plastic waste.

Mall visitors also had the opportunity to explore the Zenbook S 13 OLED and gain insights into the significance of supporting and using eco-friendly products, solidifying ASUS’ commitment to sustainability.

The ASUS x CORA Mall Caravan successfully collected over 1,100 plastic bottles, amounting to 28.5 kg in total. This initiative was hosted at SM Cyberzone in Megamall, North EDSA, and Mall of Asia.

Celebrating International Coastal Cleanup Day

In the concluding phase, ASUS marked the 2023 International Coastal Cleanup Day with a dedicated cleanup activity along the shores of the Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park (LPPWP), aimed at removing trash and debris. This effort was led by Zenbook S 13 OLED Ambassador and CORA Founder, Antoinette Taus, who joined forces with volunteers from ASUS employees, media, influencers, partners, and dealers. In a collective endeavor, 75 volunteers managed to collect 646.2 kg of plastic waste, Styrofoam, rubber materials, and stuffed toys. The gathered waste was meticulously sorted to ensure recyclable materials could be directed to CORA’s recycling partner.

The data acquired during this event will play a crucial role in helping CORA and government agencies address the pressing waste issue in Manila Bay. The Las Piñas-Parañaque Wetland Park, a part of the Manila Bay coast, has been reported to harbor an estimated 9.46 billion pieces of plastic waste[i].

United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and CORA Founder, Antoinette Taus, emphasized the need to reduce overall waste and ensure proper waste disposal, promoting the principles of a circular economy.

The combined efforts of ASUS Global and its local markets have made significant strides in sustainability focus areas. In its recently released ASUS 2022 Sustainability Report, the global technology leader outlined that it exceeded ENERGY STAR standards by an impressive 34%. Additionally, eco-friendly products contributed to 87% of the total product revenue. These achievements have earned ASUS multiple accolades in the 2023 Asia Sustainability Reporting Awards, gaining international recognition. ASUS is steadfast in its commitment to launching both local and global initiatives aimed at achieving its goal of becoming a net-zero enterprise by 2050.
