The beloved world of STEM romance is officially coming to the screen. Amazon MGM Studios has announced that the highly anticipated film adaptation of Ali Hazelwood’s New York Times bestselling novel, The Love Hypothesis, will premiere globally on Prime Video on September 23.

The romantic comedy follows Olive, played by Lili Reinhart, a brilliant Ph.D. candidate completely dedicated to her academic future. However, her strictly organized life takes a chaotic turn when she discovers that her best friend, Anh (Rachel Marsh), has fallen for her former crush, Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay). Desperate to prove that she has completely moved on and to give her friend her blessing, Olive makes an impulsive decision: she kisses the first man she sees.
That man happens to be Adam Carlsen, portrayed by Tom Bateman, a notoriously intimidating biology professor.
What starts as a frantic, well-meaning lie quickly evolves into a calculated fake relationship. To keep up appearances, Olive and Adam establish a strict set of rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial arrangement to satisfy their respective social and professional circles. However, as the duo spends more time together, the performance begins to feel entirely too real. As the boundaries blur, Olive is forced to confront her most daunting scientific challenge yet: testing the hypothesis that true love might actually be worth the risk.
Directed by Claire Scanlon and adapted for the screen by Sarah Rothschild, the film brings Hazelwood’s wildly popular book to life with a vibrant cast that also includes Jaboukie Young-White.
