Surging P-Pop: Spotify/PPOPCON Fueling Global Interest Genre Throughout the Year

Over the past half-decade, the P-Pop genre has undergone remarkable growth, captivating audiences with its visually stunning presentations, infectious beats, and compelling narratives. From the consecutive successes of PPOPCON, captivating audiences two years in a row, to Spotify contributing to an over 800% increase in daily P-Pop streams since 2018, the genre is rapidly gaining recognition as a global phenomenon.

“We have witnessed substantial growth for the P-Pop industry on the platform over the years. We are excited to be part of this remarkable movement, supporting them by providing a platform to showcase the unique flair of Filipino Pop and spotlight Filipino talent globally,” stated Kossy Ng, Spotify Asia’s Head of Music.

Powering the most celebrated P-Pop fan convention in Manila

With over 9,000 attendees at PPOPCON 2023, Spotify continues to witness a year-round appetite for more. The specially curated P-Pop On The Rise playlist experienced a remarkable 36% surge in streams, fostering connections between artists and fans while facilitating music discovery. Attendees were treated to exclusive Spotify online content and engaging on-ground activities, creating a sense of closeness to their P-Pop idols. Activities included “Isang STANong, Isang Sagot,” “P-POP Off Challenge” and the debut of the Spotify P-Pop Off! Dance Cam during the concert.

Spotify’s expertise in playlist curation takes center stage as it collaborates with PPOPCON Manila 2023, dedicated to energizing the P-Pop scene throughout the year.

P-Pop artists transcend borders

The remarkable expansion of P-Pop stands as a testament to the talent and commitment of Filipino artists. Spanning from heartwarming ballads to high-energy dance anthems, P-Pop provides a diverse and captivating musical experience.

At the forefront is SB19, whose commanding vocals and captivating performances have garnered them over 2.7 million monthly streams on Spotify. Joining the roster of standout talents for 2023 are RADAR artists ALAMAT, BINI, and RADAR alumni BGYO. Solo acts such as FELIP, Josh Cullen, and PABLO are also leaving an indelible mark. Emerging P-Pop artists KAIA, VXON, and G22 contribute to this promising lineup, experiencing an impressive 250% increase in streams on Spotify since their debut earlier this year.

SB19’s track “GENTO” has now surpassed 46 million streams on Spotify, with other notable tracks gaining momentum on the platform, including G22’s “BANG,” “Maharani” by ALAMAT, and “WILD TONIGHT” by Josh Cullen.
