Filipino indie-folk artist Peej and acclaimed Indian singer-songwriter and producer Dhruv Visvanath join creative forces in their poignant new single, “Pieces,” released globally on Friday, May 16, 2025.

What began as a chance encounter at Singapore’s All That Matters music conference in 2024 has evolved into a cross-cultural collaboration that delves deep into the human desire for connection in an increasingly disconnected world.

“At its core, Pieces is about drifting—emotionally and spiritually—and trying to find your way back,” shares Dhruv. “The idea came to me during a period of personal change. I was writing differently, exploring new emotional landscapes. When I met Peej, we clicked instantly—we even traded t-shirts! Once I had the demo, I knew he was the missing piece. He brought a raw sincerity to the song, not to mention his stunning saxophone.”

Known for his heartfelt songwriting and evocative saxophone melodies, Peej was equally enthusiastic about the collaboration.

“We met during performance days and kept running into each other at the festival,” Peej recalls. “We bonded over music, praised each other’s sets, and realized we shared the same warmth and passion. So when Dhruv reached out to collaborate months later, I didn’t hesitate.”

Crafted entirely through remote collaboration—with Dhruv in New Delhi and Peej in Manila—Pieces emerged as a hauntingly beautiful soundscape that combines ambient guitar textures, stirring lyrics, and soulful saxophone flourishes. Produced and written by Dhruv, with co-writing by Peej, the track delivers emotional resonance through its minimalist yet powerful arrangement.

“The first time I heard Dhruv’s raw voice note, I was instantly inspired,” says Peej. “It already felt like a complete song—it just needed some emotional seasoning, which I was happy to contribute.”

Lyrically, Pieces explores themes of loneliness, identity, and longing. Though the original intent behind the song was deeply personal for Dhruv—about wanting to deconstruct and reinvent himself—Peej’s interpretation brought a new emotional layer.

“I assumed Dhruv was going through heartbreak when I first heard it,” Peej says with a laugh. “I added my perspective of love lost and longing, and suddenly the song took on a dual meaning. It became a shared story of distance and desire.”

Interestingly, the physical distance between the two artists only added depth to the creative process.

“As solo artists used to working independently, the distance gave us space to express ourselves freely,” Peej reflects. “It made the collaboration more organic—we could each bring our unique voice without compromise.”

More than just a song, Pieces is a celebration of vulnerability, authenticity, and the unexpected magic of musical kinship.

“Working with someone you admire often brings out a version of yourself you didn’t know existed,” Peej shares. “Pieces is proof that true artistry can transcend geography and backgrounds.”

Now streaming on all major digital platforms, Pieces reminds listeners that no matter how scattered life may feel, the desire for genuine human connection remains timeless—and music, as always, brings us back together.
