Director Irene Emma Villamor returns to the big screen with Only We Know, a poignant romance that redefines modern relationships and explores the beauty of love beyond labels. Starring screen legends Charo Santos and Dingdong Dantes, the film opens in cinemas nationwide on June 11.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Charo and Dingdong shared insights into their characters—Betty and Ryan—and the unexpected emotional journey that unfolds between them.
“It’s a story about love—however you choose to define it,” said Charo. “It’s about learning to let go and simply go with the flow. Betty and Ryan have a connection that only they can truly understand.”
Dingdong echoed this sentiment: “It’s also a story about breaking the mold of what we think relationships should look like. Do we always need labels? This film challenges that idea and allows us to experience a unique bond that defies expectations.”
In Only We Know, Charo plays Betty, a free-spirited, retired English teacher navigating the uncertainties of life after work. She meets Ryan (Dingdong), a grief-stricken young engineer struggling with the sudden loss of his wife. Despite their differences, the two form a deep and meaningful connection that helps them heal from their emotional wounds.
As their bond deepens, Betty and Ryan must decide whether to keep going with the flow or embrace a kind of love they never saw coming—one without definition, yet filled with meaning.
Written and directed by Irene Emma Villamor, Only We Know is a collaboration between Cornerstone Studios, AgostoDos Pictures, Star Cinema, and 7K Entertainment. The film also features an ensemble cast that includes Shamaine Buencamino, Joel Saracho, Al Tantay, Max Collins, Soliman Cruz, Isabel Oli, Johnny Revilla, Rafa Siguion Reyna, Yesh Burce, and Gil Cuerva.
