Last weekend, hearts fluttered and happy tears fell as Filipino fans finally met one of South Korea’s most beloved stars—Song Joong-ki—up close and personal. The long-awaited fan meet, “IAM Song Joong-ki: Live in Manila,” took place last May 24 at the packed Mall of Asia Arena, filling the venue with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
But even before the lights dimmed and the cheers filled the air, Song Joong-ki took time to sit down with the local media, where he shared heartwarming stories, personal reflections, and a few surprising dreams for his next Philippine visit.
A Visit Long in the Making
Known for his iconic roles in Descendants of the Sun, Reborn Rich, and of course, Vincenzo, Song Joong-ki expressed his deep gratitude for finally meeting his Filipino fans in person.
“This is my first time in Manila, and I’ve always wanted to come here,” he shared through a translator. The invitation came from Filipino health and wellness brand IAM Worldwide, which made the dream meet-up possible. He thanked both the company and his fans, saying, “I feel so grateful to finally be here.”
He even greeted the press with a cheerful “Magandang hapon. Kumusta po kayong lahat?” drawing cheers and kilig from everyone in the room.
A Taste of the Local Life
While his schedule was tight, Song Joong-ki shared his desire to explore the authentic, everyday life of Filipinos. More than just visiting tourist attractions, he’s curious about local markets, supermarkets, and even neighborhood eateries.
“The places that Filipino locals go to daily—those are the places I want to explore,” he said. “I want to visit the supermarket and buy local biscuits and snacks to bring back to Korea.”
Unfortunately, with his brief stay, he couldn’t make it happen this time. But he left a heartfelt promise: “Next time, I really want to pursue that kind of schedule.”
A Family Trip to the Philippines?
In a moment that melted hearts even more, Song Joong-ki revealed he’s dreaming of returning—not alone, but with his wife Katy Louise Saunders and their children.
“Next time, I really want to go here for my family vacation because I heard there are many beautiful islands. I want to visit some paradise,” he said with a smile. The idea of seeing Song Joong-ki enjoying the white sands of Boracay or Palawan with his loved ones? Yes, please.
He’s Got Friends—and Fans—Here Too
The actor shared that part of his fondness for the Philippines comes from Filipino friends he met while filming in Italy and Korea. “They are always so kind and friendly. That’s why I had a good image of the Filipino people even before coming here,” he recalled.
He was also stunned to learn how much Filipinos adore his drama Vincenzo.
“Really? Wow,” he said, visibly surprised. “I think I have to call my writer and director. They should make a season two!”
What’s Next for Song Joong-ki?
When asked about his dream roles, Song Joong-ki hinted at returning to the world of mythical characters. “When I did A Werewolf Boy, I really enjoyed the story. I’d love to try playing a vampire or something like that next.”

A Promise to His Filipino Fans
Before wrapping up the press con, Song Joong-ki gave a touching message that sealed his love for his Filipino fans.
“Maraming-maraming salamat sa inyong suporta at pagmamahal sa akin. I’ll be doing my best to be a good actor and do good works as well, kaya sa tingin ko dapat babalik ako rito sa Manila.”
From the warmth he received to the joy he shared, it’s clear that this isn’t the last we’ll see of Song Joong-ki in the Philippines.
So to all Joong-ki stans out there—he’s coming back. And next time, it’s a family affair.
