MANILA, Philippines. October is Museums and Galleries Month, an opportunity for Filipinos to step beyond the usual tourist destinations and rediscover the country through its museums, galleries, historical sites, artworks and cultural treasures.

Museums are more than buildings filled with old objects. They preserve memories, document important events, showcase Filipino creativity and provide a deeper understanding of the people, places and traditions that shaped the nation.

This October, families, students, tourists, history enthusiasts, art lovers and young Filipinos can explore museums across Metro Manila and discover the many stories behind the country’s history and heritage.

Among the destinations highlighted for Museums and Galleries Month are the following.

More Than a Museum Visit

Museums offer more than a place to look at artifacts behind glass. They create opportunities to understand the experiences, struggles, achievements and creativity of generations of Filipinos.

A museum visit can become a family activity, a school learning experience, a photography trip, a cultural tour, a date or simply a quiet afternoon spent discovering something new.

For young Filipinos, museums can also make history more tangible. Instead of encountering the past only through textbooks and classroom discussions, visitors can see the objects, artworks, buildings and places connected to the stories they have learned.

The National Museum complex in Manila also makes it possible to experience Fine Arts, Anthropology and Natural History in a single cultural trip.

This October, make time to visit a museum.

Discover an artwork. Read an old story. Learn about the people who came before us. Stand in places where important chapters of Philippine history unfolded.

Because the Filipino story is not confined to the pages of a history book. It lives in our museums, galleries, heritage sites, artworks and cultural traditions.

This Museums and Galleries Month, discover the Philippines one museum at a time.
