- ARRI and HONOR extend cinematic image science and production workflows into consumer devices
- A bridge from the world of high‑end filmmaking to the next generation of creators
- ARRI technology will debut in HONOR’s upcoming ROBOT PHONE

HONOR, a leading AI device ecosystem company, has announced a strategic technical collaboration with ARRI, the world-renowned designer and manufacturer of professional camera technology for cinematic storytelling. This landmark partnership bridges high-end filmmaking expertise with advanced mobile imaging, setting the stage for a new era of cinematic-quality content for the next generation of creators.
By combining HONOR’s AI-powered mobile imaging capabilities with ARRI’s century-long legacy in defining cinematic image quality, the collaboration aims to extend professional filmmaking standards to smartphones, enabling creators to craft stories with enhanced authenticity, emotional depth, and visual sophistication.
“HONOR is pioneering a new era of mobile imaging, where technology exists to inspire creativity and storytelling,” says James Li, CEO of HONOR. “ARRI has defined the visual language of cinema for generations. Through this collaboration, we are bringing cinematic standards and professional workflows into mobile imaging, empowering creators to tell stories with greater impact.”
A Century of Cinematic Excellence
For over 100 years, ARRI has shaped how cinematic stories are told—from early film cameras to today’s most advanced digital systems. This commitment has been recognized with 20 Scientific and Technical Awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, underscoring ARRI’s role in defining industry-leading visual standards.
“Smartphones are already being used in professional filmmaking on blockbuster projects worldwide. It’s time to bring these worlds closer together,” says David Bermbach, Managing Director at ARRI. “For the first time, core elements of ARRI Image Science are being integrated directly into a consumer device, enabling cinematic-quality capture in a pocket-sized form factor.”
Translating ARRI Image Science to Mobile Technology
In cinema, Image Science is more than a filter—it’s the foundation of how an image is created, controlling color accuracy, highlight roll-off, shadow rendering, and consistent image behavior from capture to screen. This collaboration adapts ARRI’s principles to HONOR’s mobile imaging systems, balancing cinematic aesthetics with the constraints of smartphones.
“Smartphones have smaller sensors, integrated SoCs, different optical stacks, and bandwidth limits. The challenge isn’t to replicate cinema hardware, but to translate the underlying principles into real-time mobile architectures,” explains Dr. Benedikt von Lindeiner, Vice President at ARRI, overseeing the technical collaboration with HONOR. “Our goal is to deliver a true cinematic look on smartphones—natural colors, smooth highlight roll-off, and authentic depth—so creators can seamlessly integrate mobile footage into professional workflows.”
The first results of this groundbreaking collaboration will debut in the HONOR ROBOT PHONE, set to launch later this year, promising a new standard for cinematic storytelling in the palm of your hand.
