The Profiler had the opportunity to watch the interactive production presented by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and Move to Change Foundation, Inc. (M2C) under Project GG: Game Changers for Good Governance.
The production is designed to bring young people into a situation where they are not merely spectators but active participants who must think, decide, and stand by their choices.
You Are Not Just Watching—You Are Part of the Story
In the world of Gen G, an alternate Philippines is portrayed as having been devastated by flooding. Young people find themselves in temporary communities called “Balangay Gen Zones,” while the adults search for solutions.
But when the adults who are expected to lead do not return, the young people are forced to confront a difficult question:
What would you do if you suddenly had to make decisions for your community?
This is where the production becomes different.
Instead of remaining passive, members of the audience are encouraged to participate in choices, voting, and negotiations that can affect how the story unfolds.
And as the play progresses, it becomes clear that one seemingly simple decision can have consequences for other people.
“Sa Balangay, kasama ka sa desisyon.”
In Balangay, you are part of the decision.
That idea lies at the heart of the production.
Balangay is not merely the setting where the story takes place. It becomes a reflection of a community where people live together but do not necessarily have the same needs, perspectives, or interests.
And when resources are limited, a crisis is unfolding, and difficult choices must be made, the questions become unavoidable:
