Though the mechanics of modern romance continue to shift in an evolving digital age, J-pop group Da-iCE grounds their latest single in a completely timeless human truth. Serving as the definitive theme song for Fuji TV’s Showa-era drama series A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You (Nami Uraraka ni, Meoto Biyori Season 2), their new ballad, titled “Uraraka,” taps into a profound sense of devotion. The track strips away grand gestures to honor the basic, century-old impulse to care deeply for another person—capturing a sentimental tenderness that remains completely unchanged by time.

Da-iCE’s latest single, “Uraraka,” features a notable creative partnership between vocalist Sota Hanamura and GENIC member Ryuki Koike [1]. Hanamura is widely recognized for driving Da-iCE’s discography, having written major staple tracks such as “I wonder,” “Nonfictions,” and “Unlimited.”

Meanwhile, Koike’s catalog includes songwriting credits for mainstream pop acts, including the Rino Sashihara-produced group =LOVE. Combining their lyrical talents, the two artists developed a mid-tempo ballad that explores the enduring nature of human affection and its capability to withstand generational shifts over the next hundred years.

The romantic ballad serves as the definitive theme song for the highly anticipated sequel to Fuji TV’s historical drama A Calm Sea and Beautiful Days with You (Nami Uraraka ni, Meoto Biyori), which made its primetime return to the Thursday Theatre block on October 15, 2026. Adapted from the popular manga by Hachi Nishika, the narrative is set in the spring of 1936 and chronicles the life of Natsumi Sekiya (played by Kyoko Yoshine).

Following an unexpected arranged marriage, she finds herself betrothed to Takimasa Ebata (played by Kyoya Honda), an Imperial Japanese Navy lieutenant. Their sudden union begins with a unique twist: Takimasa is deployed for military training before they can even meet, forcing Natsumi to marry a photograph of her new husband on their wedding day.

When the newlyweds finally cross paths two weeks later, they face the daunting challenge of navigating a relationship with zero romantic experience. Natsumi is incredibly shy and has rarely spoken to men, while Takimasa is deeply reserved and notoriously difficult to read. Operating in an era completely devoid of mobile phones or digital conveniences to bridge the distance, the young couple is forced to find old-school ways to communicate, unravel each other’s personalities, and slowly build a shared life from scratch.

This slow-burning emotional bond serves as the exact inspiration for Da-iCE’s beautiful theme track. Rather than framing romance as a flash of grand, dramatic gestures, the ballad mirrors the quiet sincerity of two individuals discovering what it truly means to look out for one another.

The track’s musical arrangement was handled by the brilliant ha-j—whose extensive production resume includes top J-pop acts like Snow Man, Nogizaka46, and Ryokuoushoku Shakai. He masterfully balances a structurally solid sonic foundation with a deep, comforting acoustic warmth, even weaving subtle, wedding-inspired instrumentation throughout the piece to perfectly complement the drama’s pre-war historical backdrop.

The television franchise first captured viewers’ hearts with its initial season, which broadcasted from April to June 2025 and chronicled the couple’s first steps into matrimony. This brand-new sequel picks up right where their emotional journey left off, tracking their evolving relationship against a fresh set of historical challenges. Elevating the onscreen romance this time around is Da-iCE’s beautiful new title track, which acts as the definitive musical backdrop for the couple’s ongoing story.

The way we love changes with the times. The hope that it will last doesn’t.
