Awich's New Album 'Okinawan Wuman' Features Production by RZA_1

The reigning queen of Japanese hip-hop, Awich, enters a defining new era with the release of her latest album, Okinawan Wumen, out today. Anchoring the project is its focus track, “Fear Us,” a commanding collaboration with Joey Bada$$ and Wu-Tang Clan icon RZA that sets the tone for an album both global in scope and deeply personal in spirit.

Okinawan Wumen is a bold convergence of American and Japanese hip-hop, driven by Awich’s razor-sharp delivery and elevated by RZA’s unmistakable sonic imprint. More than a cross-cultural experiment, the album stands as a heartfelt tribute to American hip-hop—the genre that first captivated Awich during her formative years growing up in Okinawa, a place defined by layered histories and cultural exchange.

Reflecting on the album’s creation, Awich shares:
“I was born and raised in Okinawa, a crossroads of cultures, histories, and survival. A place that’s long been a hidden intersection between Japan and America—shaped by U.S. occupation and still carrying the heavy weight of military bases today. The Abbott, RZA, returned to the soil of Asia—the ground that sparked Wu-Tang—with deep respect, passing down gems that became the foundation of this album. In a world moving at breakneck speed, I chose to move with intention, shaping this project to complete the story I’ve carried within me since childhood. Through this work, I call for a renewed sense of togetherness—across cultures, across borders, across all that separates us.”

The album boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Joey Bada$$, Westside Gunn, 454, and MIKE, alongside previously released tracks with Ferg and Lupe Fiasco on “Butcher Shop” and “Wax On Wax Off.” With Okinawan Wumen, Awich sharpens her mission to unite East and West through hip-hop—pushing creative boundaries, solidifying her global ascent, and opening doors for the next generation of artists to follow.
