J-pop trio muque has released their latest single, “いいんじゃない Just As You Are,” serving as the theme song for the television drama 南田南弁護士は天才肌 (Extraordinary Attorney Minami) starring Mana Ashida. This release marks the three-piece band’s very first time creating a theme song for a drama series.
The track is directly inspired by the show’s protagonist, Minami, a rookie lawyer with autism spectrum disorder who navigates societal hurdles and tackles complex legal cases using her distinct perspective and sharp intuition. Mirroring Minami’s personal journey, the song dives into the universal struggle of finding where one belongs while managing interpersonal relationships. Through its heartfelt and sincere lyrics, the track extends a gentle sense of comfort to anyone striving to pave their own path in life.
Musically, the song serves as a milestone for the group’s evolving sound. After venturing into diverse musical styles over the years, muque has channeled their trial-and-error experimentation into a highly polished pop track. The final product represents a peak in their approach to J-pop, seamlessly blending a radio-friendly, accessible sound with a warm and genuinely comforting message.
The visual identity of the single continues a recurring narrative. Illustrator HIZGI, who designed the artwork for muque’s previous track “たりない Still Not Enough,” returns for this project. The cover brings back the familiar blue-haired character, who is now depicted holding a cat puppet. By weaving in subtle nods to the drama’s universe while building on the character’s existing storyline, the illustration showcases the band’s signature whimsical charm.
This playful creative direction sets the stage for the group’s upcoming career milestone. muque is scheduled to launch their 5th-anniversary celebration with a special live concert titled “SAVE POINT” on Friday, February 5, 2027, at the KT Zepp Yokohama venue in Kanagawa. Ultimately, “いいんじゃない Just As You Are” delivers a powerful yet uncomplicated message: true belonging comes from embracing exactly who you are.
