NEW YORK — Filipina tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala is proving that her rising international profile extends beyond the tennis court, making her New York Fashion Week debut and taking her place alongside some of the biggest names in fashion and entertainment.
Fresh from her historic run at the US Open, Eala attended three major New York Fashion Week shows for the Spring/Summer 2027 season: Tory Burch, Michael Kors and Calvin Klein. Her appearances placed the young Filipino athlete in some of the fashion capital’s most closely watched front rows.
Her first appearance came at the Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2027 show at Gotham Hall on September 10. Eala attended as an athlete guest and sat in the front row, wearing a red blazer over a blue-gray striped shirt, wide brown trousers and a quilted brown bag.
The occasion also brought Eala into the company of influential figures in fashion and entertainment, including Anna Wintour, former Vogue editor-in-chief and one of the most influential figures in the fashion industry, as well as actress Amanda Seyfried and musician Lauryn Hill.
For Eala, the invitation represented more than simply attending a fashion show. She has spoken about the connection between tennis and fashion, particularly the opportunity both provide for athletes and personalities to express themselves.
“Sports and fashion are common in a way where you get to express yourself and you get to show your personality,” Eala said during her first Fashion Week appearance. She also admitted to being excited and slightly nervous about entering a new environment.
Her interest in fashion has also caught Wintour’s attention. Before Eala’s Fashion Week debut, Wintour had singled her out while discussing how tennis players increasingly use fashion as a form of self-expression. Wintour cited Eala as a young player already demonstrating a strong interest in fashion and a desire to learn more about the industry.
Eala’s Fashion Week journey continued with Michael Kors, where she again appeared in the front row alongside Wintour. She wore a black Michael Kors Collection midi dress featuring three-dimensional floral details, complemented by black gloves, a structured handbag and heels.
She then attended the Calvin Klein Spring 2027 presentation, appearing in an all-white ensemble. There, she shared the spotlight with a high-profile group that included Sadie Sink, Pamela Anderson, Gemma Chan and Tate McRae.
The three appearances came only days after Eala’s campaign at the 2026 US Open, where she reached the third round before losing to American No. 14 seed Iva Jovic. Her New York visit therefore became a continuation of an increasingly high-profile period for the Filipino tennis star.
The timing is significant. Eala’s presence at Fashion Week comes as her name continues to gain recognition internationally—not only for her achievements in tennis but also for her personality, style and growing presence outside the sport.
The Women’s Tennis Association noted that Eala’s fashion appearances followed her first-time run to the US Open third round and described her style presence as complementing the attention she has been receiving on court.
Her three front-row appearances in a matter of days also illustrate the increasingly blurred line between elite sports and popular culture. Athletes such as Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka have previously established themselves as influential figures in fashion, using clothing and personal style as extensions of their identities.
Eala now appears to be entering that same broader conversation—while still at the beginning of her professional career.
For the 21-year-old Filipino tennis star, however, Fashion Week appears less about leaving tennis behind and more about exploring another avenue of self-expression.
After making history on the court, Alex Eala has now made another kind of statement in New York: the Filipina athlete is becoming a name to watch not only in tennis, but also in the world of fashion.
