QUEZON CITY, Philippines — The atmosphere inside ABS-CBN Studio 8 was a palpable mix of excitement and poignant reflection this afternoon as the country’s premier Gen Z love team, Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano, faced the media for the conference of their latest Star Cinema project, Tayo Sa Wakas.
For the hundreds of “Bubblies” and “Donnies” following the journey of DonBelle, today’s event was more than just a promotional stop. It served as a formal venue for the pair to discuss their decision to enter a “professional hiatus” following the film’s release—a move they describe as a necessary step for their individual evolution as artists.
Mirroring Reality on Screen
Written by Vanessa Valdez and helmed by the legendary Direk Cathy Garcia-Sampana, Tayo Sa Wakas ironically tells the story of a long-term couple who embarks on a “breakup trip” to decide if their relationship is worth saving.
During the Q&A, Direk Cathy noted how the maturity of the actors has reached a peak in this project. “You see a different Donny and a different Belle here,” she shared. “They aren’t just playing roles; they are channeling the very real growth they’ve experienced over the last five years.”
On the ‘Last Project Together’
Addressing the rumors of a “breakup” head-on, Donny Pangilinan was quick to clarify that the decision to pause their tandem is rooted in mutual respect.
”We’ve been inseparable since 2021, and we are so grateful for everything. But we also talked and agreed that to give more to our craft, we need to explore what we can do individually,” Donny explained.
Belle Mariano echoed this sentiment, adding that the film serves as their “love letter” to the fans who have supported them since He’s Into Her. “This is our way of saying thank you. It’s bittersweet, yes, but it’s also a celebration of how far we’ve come.”
The Road to May 27
Despite the heavy hearts of many in attendance, the conference remained a celebration of the duo’s chemistry. From lighthearted anecdotes about filming on location to deep dives into the script’s emotional beats, the team behind Tayo Sa Wakas promised a cinematic experience that challenges the traditional tropes of Filipino romance.
As the event wrapped up at the ELJ Tower, one thing was clear: whether they are working together or pursuing solo paths, the bond between Donny and Belle remains unbreakable.
Tayo Sa Wakas opens in cinemas nationwide on May 27, 2026.
