MediCard and AIA Philippines deepen integration to build a proactive and future-ready healthcare ecosystem

MediCard Philippines, one of the country’s leading healthcare companies and the healthcare arm of AIA Group in the Philippines, has officially relocated its corporate headquarters to the AIA Tower along Paseo de Roxas, Makati City. The strategic move deepens MediCard’s integration with AIA Philippines—formerly Philam Life—and reinforces their shared commitment to building a more proactive, innovative, and future-ready healthcare system for Filipinos.

AIA Group is the leading multinational life insurer operating across 18 Asia-Pacific markets. By bringing MediCard and AIA Philippines under one roof, the relocation strengthens collaboration and accelerates efforts to deliver holistic health and protection solutions aligned with evolving healthcare needs.

“This move marks a key milestone in MediCard’s transformation—from a local healthcare provider to a fully integrated health company and AIA’s healthcare arm in the Philippines,” said Julian Mengual, MediCard Chief Executive Officer. “Closer collaboration with AIA Philippines allows us to better anticipate healthcare demands, speed up innovation, and deliver solutions that support AIA’s purpose of helping Filipinos live healthier, longer, and better lives.”

Founded in 1986, MediCard serves individuals, small and medium-sized enterprises, and large corporations nationwide. Its extensive network includes 18 free-standing clinics, over 1,500 accredited hospitals and clinics, and more than 24,000 partner doctors. Beyond its core HMO services, MediCard has expanded into dental and eye care through specialized clinics and strengthened its digital health ecosystem through the MediCard GO app, which offers telemedicine services, online Letter of Authorization requests, and virtual membership IDs.

This digital infrastructure integrates seamlessly with AIA Philippines’ Total Health Solutions ecosystem, enabling both companies to provide end-to-end healthcare and protection—spanning prevention, treatment, and financial security.

Following AIA Philippines’ acquisition of MediCard in 2023, the relocation further expands AIA’s footprint in the health sector while enhancing MediCard’s capacity to deliver care at scale. It positions both organizations to streamline operations, accelerate innovation, and create a more seamless ecosystem that combines MediCard’s expansive healthcare network with AIA’s life and health protection expertise.

More than a change of address, the move signals MediCard’s evolution toward global standards in healthcare delivery. Physical proximity allows both organizations to leverage AIA Group’s international expertise, elevating healthcare services and driving the development of world-class, future-ready solutions.

Shaping a More Holistic Future of Health

The relocation comes at a time when healthcare demands are rapidly changing, calling for a more holistic and proactive approach. According to AIA Philippines’ 2025 study, “Rethinking Healthy: What Overall Well-Being Means to Filipinos,” health is no longer defined solely by physical well-being. While 52% of Filipinos still prioritize physical health, the study highlights growing emphasis on mental health (30%), financial health (12%), and environmental health (7%).

The research also reveals that financial stress remains a major barrier to healthcare access, with 59% of Filipinos citing it as a primary concern and 47% saying financial challenges limit their ability to receive quality care.

“True healthcare is proactive, not reactive—it should help people stay healthy and prepared for life’s challenges,” said Melita Teo, Chief Executive Officer of AIA Philippines. “By integrating MediCard into our workplace and culture, we strengthen a unified approach to health that empowers Filipinos to take charge of their overall well-being. This move also reflects our commitment to an award-winning, people-first culture that values collaboration, innovation, and care.”

The shared headquarters is expected to enhance synergy between MediCard and AIA Philippines, enabling cross-functional teams to collaborate more closely, exchange insights, and co-create solutions tailored to individuals, families, SMEs, and large corporations.

A Unified Vision for Filipino Healthcare

The relocation supports MediCard’s strategy to expand beyond traditional HMO coverage by strengthening its focus on dental care, eye care, and digital health innovations. For AIA Philippines, it underscores a renewed emphasis on health protection—ensuring Filipinos have greater access to both preventive care and long-term financial security.

“With AIA’s global expertise and MediCard’s deep understanding of local healthcare needs, we are building a stronger, more responsive healthcare network,” Mengual added. “This is about making healthcare not only more accessible, but also more meaningful for every Filipino.”

As MediCard and AIA Philippines come together under one roof, the move sets the foundation for deeper collaboration and continuous innovation. Both organizations see this as the beginning of a more integrated, proactive, and future-ready healthcare ecosystem—one that delivers real value and accessible health solutions to Filipinos nationwide.
