AirAsia Philippines is reinforcing its commitment to safer skies through an expanded partnership with the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group (PNP AVSEGROUP), launching new initiatives aimed at enhancing aviation security, preventing travel-related fraud, and improving passenger protection across the country.

During a courtesy meeting held at the PNP AVSEGROUP Headquarters, AirAsia Philippines Head of Security Larry Valdevilla met with PNP AVSEGROUP Director PBGen. Dionisio B. Bartolome Jr., together with senior officials from both organizations, to discuss collaborative efforts that will strengthen security measures and ensure a safer, smoother travel experience for all passengers.

Intensifying the Fight Against Travel Document Fraud

One of the key priorities discussed was the growing use of fraudulent identification documents and identity impersonation in air travel—a threat that compromises both passenger safety and the integrity of the country’s aviation system.

In 2025, AirAsia Philippines successfully apprehended 114 individuals involved in cases of fake travel documents and identity fraud, highlighting the airline’s vigilance in detecting and preventing travel-related crimes.

AirAsia Philippines President and General Manager Anna Victoria Lu emphasized the importance of the strengthened partnership.

“Our partnership with PNP AVSEGROUP reflects our shared commitment to keeping air travel safe, secure, and seamless for all passengers. We aim to give our guests greater confidence every time they fly with AirAsia Philippines.”

To further combat document fraud, PNP AVSEGROUP committed to working closely with local law enforcement agencies and deploying intelligence resources to identify and investigate individuals and groups responsible for producing and distributing fraudulent identification documents.

These initiatives form part of the agency’s broader strategy to strengthen aviation security nationwide.

Improving Firearms Handling Procedures

The meeting also addressed procedures for passengers traveling with legally permitted firearms.

Under existing regulations, travelers are required to present valid permits, licenses, and supporting documentation, which are verified by PNP AVSEGROUP Firearms Facilitators before transport.

AirAsia Philippines raised operational concerns regarding the implementation of firearm escort procedures to ensure compliance with safety standards.

In response, PNP AVSEGROUP committed to deploying additional Firearms Facilitators, guaranteeing continuous supervision of firearms—from passenger acceptance and inspection through loading onto the aircraft—in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Enhancing Protection Against Onboard Theft

Passenger security extends beyond airport screening.

Recognizing the increasing concern over onboard theft, AirAsia Philippines and PNP AVSEGROUP also discussed measures to strengthen incident response protocols, improve evidence preservation, and enhance coordination between airline personnel and law enforcement.

Drawing from actual case experiences, PNP AVSEGROUP underscored the importance of immediate reporting and proper documentation to support investigations, increase recovery efforts, and provide timely assistance to affected passengers.

Stronger Coordination for Faster Response

To further improve aviation security, both organizations agreed to establish more efficient communication channels and direct command center coordination, enabling faster response times during security incidents.

As part of the expanded partnership, AirAsia Philippines and PNP AVSEGROUP also committed to:

  • Conducting regular reviews of firearms handling procedures and documentation requirements.
  • Organizing joint tabletop exercises simulating firearms transport and onboard theft scenarios.
  • Strengthening information-sharing mechanisms while ensuring compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

These collaborative efforts aim to improve preparedness, streamline security operations, and foster a more coordinated response to emerging aviation security challenges.

A Shared Commitment to Safer Skies

The strengthened partnership underscores the shared dedication of AirAsia Philippines and PNP AVSEGROUP to maintaining the highest standards of aviation safety through proactive collaboration, effective law enforcement coordination, and continuous enhancement of security procedures.

By working together to combat fraud, strengthen passenger protection, and improve operational readiness, both organizations are taking meaningful steps toward delivering a safer, more secure, and more reliable travel experience for every Filipino and international traveler flying with AirAsia Philippines.
