Global Game Jam Launches “Citizens Assemble” with One World or None: A Game Jam Revolution for Democracy
San Luis Obispo, California June 5, 2025 Global Game Jam (GGJ), the world’s largest game creation event, is teaming up with social impact initiative One World or None (OWON) to launch an ambitious global project: “Citizens, Assemble! A Game Jam to Level Up Democracy.”
This new international competition invites developers around the world to create mobile-friendly games that explore the concept of citizens’ assemblies a real-world model of participatory democracy.
With $10,000 grand prize, multiple category awards, and the potential for development support, this jam empowers creators to go beyond entertainment to inspire change through gameplay.
What Is the Citizens Assemble Game Jam About?
The Citizens Assemble game jam challenges developers to simulate or reimagine citizens’ assemblies groups of ordinary people chosen through randomized democratic lotteries to deliberate on societal challenges and propose solutions.
These assemblies represent a true cross-section of society, factoring in age, gender, ethnicity, economic status, and geography. Participants engage in structured deliberations that often lead to bold and realistic solutions sometimes even more advanced than those proposed by traditional politicians.

Why This Matters
According to Tristan Clark, co-founder of Trailmix Games and one of the organizers:
“We already have the tools around us to create a better future, but lack mass awareness of them. That’s why this game jam is so important video games can allow people to experience real democratic processes in ways that are fun and engaging.”
“Citizens, Assemble!” is more than a game jam, it’s a call to action for developers to use their creativity to empower people, encourage participation, and build a stronger democratic future through gaming.
