SM Supermalls has strengthened its commitment to diversity and inclusion through a new partnership with the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), aimed at providing meaningful job opportunities for individuals on the autism spectrum in the retail industry.

Building on SM Markets’ pioneering autism-inclusive hiring initiative launched in 2016, this latest collaboration marks a significant step forward in creating sustainable career pathways for neurodiverse talents across the SM ecosystem.

Strengthening our commitment to a more inclusive community, SM Supermalls and ASP sign the Memorandum of Understanding for Inclusive Hiring of talents on the spectrum

The partnership was formalized through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) held at Book Nook in SM Podium—a flagship community learning space under the SM Cares program. Soon, individuals on the spectrum will be welcomed as Book Nook concierges, turning the vision of inclusive employment into a reality in a space dedicated to learning, connection, and belonging.

“Book Nook was always meant to be a space where everyone feels they belong,” shared Ms. Shereen T. Sy. “This initiative sharpens that vision—transforming the library into a living story of inclusion, empowerment, and opportunity.”

Ms. Mona Magno Veluz, Country Manager of ASP Autism Works, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration.

“We need more companies making space for Filipinos with disabilities to thrive in the workforce. This partnership is a hopeful step in that direction.”

This initiative is part of SM Cares’ broader advocacy for inclusive employment, which seeks to create environments where individuals with disabilities are not only welcomed but empowered to grow and succeed.

“At SM, inclusion is more than a policy—it’s our purpose,” said Mr. Steven T. Tan, President of SM Supermalls. “This collaboration with ASP reaffirms our vision of being a Mall for All—a place where everyone can find success and a sense of belonging.”

Through strategic partnerships like this, SM Supermalls continues to lead the way in building inclusive, compassionate spaces—not just in malls, but across communities in the Philippines. With guidance from ASP, SM ensures its practices for hiring, training, and supporting neurodiverse individuals align with global standards and meaningful impact.
