Unilever Philippines has recently inaugurated its new Beauty & Wellbeing and Personal Care (BWPC) factory in General Trias, Cavite. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as the hub for the company’s production of daily beauty and hygiene essentials, including shampoo, hair conditioners, deodorants, and face creams.

Among Unilever’s global network of operating sites, its total operations in the Philippines are among the largest. The new factory stands as one of its most significant Beauty & Well-being and Personal Care facilities in Southeast Asia. With over 90% of its total manufacturing base retained in the Philippines, Unilever even exports Philippine-made products to multiple countries worldwide.

“Emerging markets contribute 59% of Unilever’s global turnover, and the Philippines remains an important market and a growth driver for the company. Our investment in the new factory is anchored on our purpose to meet the needs of our consumers and our customers, and is a direct response to the government’s call for inclusive growth through countryside opportunities with Unilever and its value chain partners,” shared Benjie Yap, Unilever Philippines Chairman & CEO.

The newly inaugurated factory is a cornerstone of Unilever’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing operations. Leveraging increased manufacturing efficiencies and its strategic location in Cavite, the company can significantly reduce its carbon footprint, minimizing waste and fuel usage.

In alignment with the company’s global commitment to a waste-free world, recent changes in packaging have resulted in a documented 25% reduction in plastic use for deodorant products.

The future-ready BWPC factory boasts highly specialized and advanced technologies, including automated mixers, high-speed Shubham lines, and bottle and capping machines, all operated by Programmable Logic Control. In the coming years, the site will integrate more automated machines managed by a highly trained workforce. The anticipated future technologies will position the facility as a candidate for the World Economic Forum’s ‘Advanced Fourth Industrial Revolution Lighthouse.’

Additionally, the site features an upgraded in-factory wastewater treatment facility to responsibly manage water use. In the near future, the BWPC factory will harness geothermal and solar power within its perimeter. By the end of September, Unilever aims to transition all of its factories, offices, and distribution centers to 100% renewable grid electricity.

During the event, Unilever was granted its Certificate of Registration by the Board of Investments, recognizing the company’s investment in the Beauty & Wellbeing and Personal Care factory. This acknowledgment is attributed to the factory’s cutting-edge technologies, export commitments, and contribution to local employment.

Unilever stands firm in its belief that when products address social needs and facilitate sustainable living, brands become more meaningful to consumers. With a vision to expand its business for the benefit of people and the planet, Unilever aims to achieve this through innovative products, impactful programs, and collaborative partnerships.
