This highly anticipated event promises to be an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) is set to close its 38th concert season with a grand finale on April 28, 2023, at the CCP Live in the Metropolitan Theater. The PPO resident and associate conductor, a multi-awarded musician, will lead the orchestra during the concert. He has won various awards in music competitions such as the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and the League of Filipino Composers Competition for Young Composers.

He has performed with different orchestras locally and internationally, and has worked with his mentor, Fr. Manuel P. Maramba, O.S.B. in various productions at CCP. He was the musical director and conductor of the Philippine Opera Companies’ OPERA NOW in 2005, and the conductor of the world premiere of three Filipino Operas and Zarzuela. Additionally, he founded the Philippine Band Association (PHILBANDA) and is currently a board member of the Asia-Pacific Band Directors Association and the adviser of Band Conductors League of the Philippines.

The PPO, under his baton, will perform his very own composition, “Lola Basyang Miniature Suite,” alongside works such as Dmitri Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, Christoph Willibald Gluck’s L’espoir renait dans mon ame from Orphee et Eurydice, and Gaetano Donizetti’s Prendi, per me sei libero from L’elisir d’amore.

Concert VIII will feature pieces by Gioacchino Rossini, Georges Bizet, Gaetano Donizetti, and Antonin Dvorak Symphony no. 9, op.95, E minor (“from the New World”). The PPO will share the stage with young talented singers, soprano Mheco Joy Manlangit and tenor Radnel Del Rio Ofalsa.

Manlangit, a winner of multiple vocal competitions, has played various notable roles such as Maria Clara in CCP’s Noli Me Tangere the Opera, Fiordiligi in Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, and Lady Billows in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring. Ofalsa, on the other hand, has also won several vocal competitions and has performed at various concerts and festivals.

The 38th concert series, dubbed Metamorphosis, serves as the battleground for the five shortlisted conductors competing for the musical director position in the PPO.

Ticket prices for the concert range from Php 500 to Php 1,500. For inquiries and tickets, contact the CCP Box Office at 8832-3704 or email customercare@culturalcenter.gov.ph. Stay updated with the latest news on CCP’s official social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.
