SM Aims for Grand Coastal Cleanup Success Across Its Nationwide Malls on International Coastal Cleanup Day

SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility division of SM Supermalls, in collaboration with SM Prime Holdings, Inc., is actively preparing to orchestrate the largest-scale collection of waste and marine debris for this year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day on September 16, 2023. The event will take place at SM By the BAY and various SM Malls situated across the nation.

SM’s expanded involvement, encompassing 15 SM malls spanning 12 locations in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, will facilitate the participation of a larger number of volunteers and employees in this cleanup initiative. Their collective efforts aim to safeguard the marine environment and its valuable resources within the communities they serve.

Since 2015, SM has steadfastly embraced its commitment to bolstering International Coastal Cleanup Day each September while also organizing multiple cleanup initiatives throughout the year. The most recent cleanup effort held in June, in celebration of World Environment Day and World Oceans Day, resulted in the collection of a remarkable 29,272 kilograms of waste across 5 SM malls nationwide. Furthermore, SM By the BAY, SM Mall of Asia, and SM Offices consistently carry out bi-monthly cleanup drives within the MOA Complex.

The coastal cleanup initiative stands as just one among the numerous projects jointly organized by SM Cares and the prominent real estate developer, SM Prime Holdings Inc. These initiatives are designed to uphold and bolster the marine environment, aligning with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ efforts for ocean conservation and the goals of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
