Honda Foiundation Inc. Hosts Inaugural Road Safety Summit

The Honda Foundation, Inc. (HFI) and the Municipality of Pasig teamed up to host the inaugural Road Safety Summit at the Pasig Rainforest Park. The Road Safety Summit (RSS) is designed to cultivate a road safety mindset and enhance the riding and driving skills of road users, aiming to safeguard the welfare of society through collaboration with the local government unit (LGU). Additionally, the RSS offers practical road safety knowledge to the community in a user-friendly and engaging manner.

Key figures present at the event included Mr. Seiji Fujimoto, President of HFI and concurrent president of Honda Parts Manufacturing Corp. (HPMC); Ms. Sayaka Arai-Hattori, President of Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI), and head of the HFI Board of Trustees; Mr. Masanao Shikanai, President of Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone, Corp. (HTPE); Pasig Congressman Roman Romulo; and officials from Pasig City.

HFI serves as the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of Honda companies in the Philippines, including Honda Philippines, Inc. (manufacturer/distributor of motorcycles and power products), Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (automobile products), Honda Parts Manufacturing, Inc. (manufacturer/exporter), and Honda Trading Philippines Ecozone Corporation (storage/warehousing).

Established and registered as a non-stock, non-profit organization on December 23, 1992, HFI has been actively engaged in various advocacies, including Protecting the Environment, Supporting the Youth for the Future, Addressing Community Needs, and Promoting Traffic Safety. Honda aims to be “a company that society wants to exist,” contributing to the realization of a sustainable society by enhancing people’s lives worldwide through its social contribution initiatives.

In 2019, the Honda team conducted Safety Riding Promotions near the Pasig City Hall, focusing on motorcycle riders. The event was a success, with participation from riders, employees of the Mayor’s Office, the public, and selected Honda Dealer Partners. Activities included a Road Safety Seminar, Test Ride & Learn to Ride sessions, Product Display, Vehicle Safety Features Presentation, among others. This year, through HFI, Honda kicks off 2024 with the 1st Road Safety Summit, offering a broader range of activities. For the first time, the event showcased not only Honda Motorcycles but also displayed the latest Honda Automobile vehicles with their safety and innovative technology features, as well as the Power Products lineup, including portable generators and tools for agriculture needs.

The event provided a fun-filled learning experience for over 500 road users, including motorcycle and automobile enthusiasts such as Riders’ clubs, LGU employees, Traffic enforcers, TODA members, students, and families visiting the Pasig Rainforest Park on that day.

The President of HFI underscored the significance of cooperation between the private sector and the government in addressing the increasing number of traffic-related road crashes. Emphasizing Honda’s role as a mobility company offering diverse products and services, the President expressed Honda’s commitment to not only moving people physically but also touching their hearts through the value it provides. These sentiments were echoed by Ms. Sayaka Arai-Hattori, President of HPI and a fellow HFI board trustee. HFI remains steadfast in its dedication to being a leader in road safety for every family.

Led by Congressman Romulo, the officials of Pasig City conveyed their gratitude and endorsement of HFI’s initiatives, particularly its efforts to promote a Road Safety mindset among Pasig residents. Their ultimate objective is to safeguard the lives of individuals within the community.

HFI’s Road Safety Program for Our Family, implemented through the Honda Safety Driving Center (HSDC) – 1 Honda Road Safety program (1HRS), is in line with Honda’s global safety driving campaign “SAFETY FOR EVERYONE.” As part of Honda’s worldwide direction, a comprehensive road safety strategy, including close collaboration with governments, is crucial to achieving the company’s objective of reducing the number of road crash fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles. The ultimate goal is to reach zero traffic collision fatalities by 2050.
